Talent Mine started as a weekly academic and life skills program for out-of-school children in the Ota community where I lived. Today, Talent Mine has evolved into a free school that provides 12 years of high-quality education to out-of-school children in Ota.

When we first met Aliu, he could write the letters of the alphabet with ease, but he struggled with writing two- to three-letter words and could not read. Frequent moves by his family led to inconsistencies in his education.
