I can only assume that the majority of the "Environmental" portion of this summit was spent addressing City of Melbourne's number one biggest source of emissions. Bigger than every other source combined even.

Environmental, Social and Governance reporting! It's more important than ever for governments and businesses to be assessed against ESG benchmarks – from sustainability reporting, to gender equity programs, to good governance.

26 acres of multilane highways, carparks, car wash, car dealerships, petrol stations and drive-through takeaway in the works precinct. Is this the vision we have for our "Metro" network?

👏 Taking pride in Clyde Road! 🚉 We removed the level crossing at Clyde Road, Berwick in February 2022 by building a road underpass. 🌱 We also upgraded the station precinct and planted over 37,000 trees and shrubs. ➡️ Visit our website to learn more: https://t.co/KeSmgJnR8l

Actually cray this is the skyline for Box Hill on Google maps. How can we force them to update the imagery for Melbourne?

There are much worse comparisons or car v bus trips but my point in highlighting this one is that it should be an ideal scenario. 901 has very little deviation vs car, and has decently spaced stops approx 400m average on this section. Yet still takes 2-4x longer than a car.

We've got this perfectly good freeway already built that is rarely congested even at peak times, why not use it for good? Like all good advocacy this was inspired by my own circumstance because I had to make a similar trip myself. I chose to save $5.30 and rode my bike. 6/6

And the best bit, while we wait 12 years for SRL to give us these high speed orbital benefits, this service, or similar could be delivered very quickly with minimal capital expenditure, a few buses and reconfiguring some of the interchange stops. 5/6

Theoretical travel times to all these would be significantly reduced, with Ringwood - Dandenong being under approx 30 min or less, Glen Waverley in ~25min with 1 interchange, down from 35min, Monash in ~35min with 1 interchange down from 1h05m 4/6

Is the solution an express freeway running bus that makes minimal stops, maybe 2 or 3 at key points to interchange with local buses along the route that service major destinations eg. Glen Waverley, Knox City, Monash Uni, Rowville. 3/6

19m by car or 1h13m by PT is pretty rough especially as the 901 is very direct by Melb standards. Even if you avoid the tolls it's less than half the time, 38m on same route as bus. Tolls are max of $5.57 + ~$3 fuel. Full fare ticket will cost $5.30 for the privilege. 2/6

How to reconcile delivering good bus service with Melbourne's size and inherent drawbacks of local bus service? eg. freq stopping Should Melbourne make better use of it's freeways and run more express services? A comparison of a journey between Ringwood and Dandenong. 1/6
