Thanks to all the CA2 and CA3 Anesthesiology Residents at BWH for such a great and involved journal club! Deb #anesjc.

The residents felt that they learned from the Journal club, podcast and manuscript. They especially liked the twitter Journal Club format.

Most of our residents have never seen TACO but suggest that we should include it as an outcome measure #anesJC.

There seems to be a need for better communication about outcomes and blood transfusion. #anesJC.

Another weakness was thought to be a failure to examine whether chronic pulmonary disease was a independent risk factor for TACO!#anesjc.

Other weaknesses of the study being discussed include that it was from a single center and may not apply to all patient populations.

The BWH residents felt that one weakness was the observational nature of the study that can increase bias and confounding.#anesJC.

The residents seem to believe that in the setting of active bleeding the administration of blood seems appropriate #anesJC.

How about in the setting of an emergency surgical procedure that does not involve active bleeding? #anesjc.

What is done at other institutions with regards to washing PRBC's and diagnosing TACO?.

How does the blood bank define TACO when compared to other causes of similar findings? Is it exclusion?.

Our PRBC's are not usually washed!#anesJC.

Discussion: Decrease volume administration as appropriate! Should we be using washed PRBC's rather than regular PRBC's!.

Is it transfusion volume? The transfusion volume in TACO was lower. These residents are engaged.
