How does Laura's 'unsurvivable' potential 20-foot storm surge compare to other Louisiana hurricanes? That and more key info: https://t.co/pzVI86Emkr For perspective: Only 1 Louisiana hurricane in the past half-century caused a surge of more than 15 feet. It's the obvious one.

As Hurricane Laura looms over the Gulf Coast with winds that could gust as high as 170 mph, the storm surge it brings represents another potentially "unsurvivable" danger.

Would like to see more media coverage of the impending 'Zoom Boom' and the ability of Internet providers/systems to handle it. Lots of organizations are making decisions based on what may be optimistic assumptions.

Good news: river at Carrollton Gauge now expected to crest at 'only' 17 feet. But that's around two feet lower than previous prediction, and three feet lower than max predicated two days ago.

GFS rainfall forecast for Barry. Some get heavy rain, others do not. European model shows far less rainfall. Best advice is to be prepared for the heavy rain, but know it may not be as bad. @wdsu #nola #lawx

Some good news: --NWS has updated crest prediction at Carrollton Gauge to 19 ft, down a foot; --gauge data and levee data are based on 2 different vertical datums-->which buys us extra room; --USACE says some levee heights are actually higher than reported in its public database.
