I often see cis people who struggle to imagine what it’s like being trans and here’s the trick:
Don’t imagine wanting to be a different gender. Imagine being unable to be the gender you already are.
YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE A PENIS TO BE A WOMAN
YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE A PENIS TO BE A WOMAN
YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE A PENIS TO BE A WOMAN
YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE A PENIS TO BE A WOMAN
CIS WOMEN ARE AS VALID AS NORMAL WOMEN
Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson have done far more for Rowling than she’s done for them.
Watson has done far more for women’s rights than Rowling has.
Radcliffe has done far more for gay people than Rowling has.
Rowling should shut up and learn from them instead.
Whilst we’re all disregarding the safety of disabled people during a pandemic, just remember, they’re the only minority group that you can accidentally become a member of, and one that you’re increasingly likely to join as time goes on.
3700 close contacts in VIC from just two sporting events. I work for a theatre with 125 seats that hasn’t been able to open to full capacity all year, even though theatres haven’t been exposure sites even once. Wanna bet sports will still get reopened faster than the arts?
Wild that people are criticising Katherine Ryan for not saying enough about Russell Brand when, until today, she said more publicly than literally anyone else
In the past week
@jk_rowling
has gone from harassing a newsreader, to cringe Mother's Day jokes, to supporting a ban on trans healthcare, to calling for legal action against UK trans orgs, to holocaust denial.
Terrifying ideology, but the best pacing her writing's had in years.
@Delic8WeeFlower
Yes it is. The singular they and plural they have both co-existed side by side for centuries. The distinction is usually clear, and is very clear here from context clues.
They were either confused or they fumbled their own attempt at a dunk.
It’s failure either way
@Centrefuter
@X
Because you engage with stuff *like* this. Commenting here is just gonna bring you more of it. You’re rewarding the algorithm for bringing you here
Imagine your gender, the one that already fits, being denied and doubted and questioned by those around you. Imagine being told that your gender, the one you know yourself to be, doesn’t even exist. Imagine being told you aren’t that gender, and you never could be.
Trans people don’t choose to be trans. We don’t choose to change genders. We choose to be honest. It’s the world around us that makes us trans, by slapping incorrect labels on us and expecting us to comply.
Transgender has always been something of a misnomer, because the vast majority of trans folk aren’t changing their genders. They’re just naming and claiming the gender they’ve always had.
That’s why the panic around “trans ideology” seems so bizarre to many of us. Trans ideology isn’t really a thing, but if it was, it wouldn’t be us trying to make you all switch. It would just be us trying to give everyone the freedom to be who they already are.
If you’re a cis woman, the difference between you and a trans woman is that your womanhood is mutually agreed upon by all those around you. If you’re a cis man, the difference between you and a trans man is that he has had to prove his manhood, to himself and to the world.
At 9:30 tonight I was going to perform a sold out comedy show that would’ve paid my next two months of rent. Suddenly, all that money is gone. I know these lockdowns are necessary, but it’s also pretty important for me to pay my damn rent. You want me to stay home? THEN PAY ME!
Before I transitioned, no one called me fat.
I didn’t gain more than 5kgs when I transitioned.
Now I get called fat, all the time - exclusively by TERFs online. Usually as a way to dismiss my womanhood.
Never let these people fool you into thinking they’re actually feminists.
@trashseagull
It’s a pronoun with both singular and plural meanings. Just like “you.” Doesn’t take more than primary school English to wrap your head around it all 🤷♀️
@DefAMustRead
Most drag queens aren’t near kids. The ones who are just reading Dr. Seuss.
No-one’s doing the freaky forces trans fan-fiction that you’re writing. Saved it for AO3, babe
@DefAMustRead
Okay, so you’re talking about your own thing that none of us are talking about? If you have unrelated thoughts, you are allowed to just go ahead and post them as brand new tweets.
To celebrate International Transgender Day of Visibility, here's a list of the trans women doing solo shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival:
It's me. I'm the only one.
@Connor_thescot
@Kairu_Litt
All the drag queen said was that she got paid. You have invented literally every other part of this scenario. You’re hallucinating. Drink some water.
The rules intended to stop trans women from competing have instead stopped a bunch of black women from competing. I feel like all the transphobes upset about fairness in women’s sports should be getting really angry about how unfair this is, but they’re weirdly quiet. 🤔
Namibia's Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi have been withdrawn from the 400m race at the Olympics by World Athletics.
They are said to not be eligible for female classification.
The same rules are affecting Caster Semenya, Francine Niyonsaba and Margaret Wambui.
@PigletIsMee
Yes, he was confused by the easily parsed sentence, because he was both respecting the drag queen’s dual pronouns whilst simultaneously mocking them.
Four dimensional chess here, can’t believe I missed it
The queen of the TERFs, as portrayed by her worst fear, an unapologetic trans woman.
With all the controversy around
@jk_rowling
, and her hateful comments about
@IndiaWilloughby
, it’s the perfect moment to see my brand new TERF satire at
@ADLfringe
OPENS NEXT WEEK!
Me after coming out as trans, getting on hormones, buying a whole new wardrobe, alienating friends/family, getting harassed in the street, getting hate mail, losing job opportunities, etc:
“Oh man, this is all gonna be worth it once I get in the women’s bathroom”
Alright folks, Louis CK is coming to Australia in November. If any of you figure out a way to get me booked as his opening act, I promise to jerk off in front of him in the green room 🙏
Jesus Christ,
@jk_rowling
is getting increasingly blatant in her transphobia. Mask off and the mask is in the bin.
I don’t know if I’ll be able to do my play about her again after this
@ADLfringe
season. My parody of her is starting to look way too kind. 😬
@Connor_thescot
@AkinnaThe
Wow, fuck, I’ve lost the respect of some random dude on Twitter.
I gotta say, I’m really wounded by this. This has ruined my whole day.
Random Twitter dude. Fuck. A new low. Reeling from this.
This is Australia’s seventh snap lockdown this year and the federal government still doesn’t have a safety net in place. There’s been, on average, an outbreak every 12 days in 2021. This will happen again before everyone is vaccinated. Bring back Jobkeeper.
Cis supremacy always leads to white supremacy because cis supremacy is rooted in colonial ideas about gender, ideas that were never built to include black people or black cultures. You can’t be anti-racist and transphobic, because transphobia always leads to racism.
@trashseagull
The singular they dates back to 1375, according to the Oxford English Dictionary.
But if anyone thinks they know more about grammar than the OED, they’re free to continue to looking foolish 🤷♀️
As a trans woman, it's refreshing to see an Australian politician standing firmly on the correct side of this. I'll happily perform at or host any
@reasonaustralia
fundraiser, if they keep putting out candidates like
@JaneCaro
.
I am disgusted by the cynical, political attempts to demonise transgender Australians for political purposes. My message of support for those who are feeling attacked and afraid.
@Can_i_crypto
There’s a difference between caring about our ancestors’ opinions and caring about our ancestors’ actions. We can care about what they actually did without caring what they would hypothetically have thought.
Straight boy compliments: yeah hot
Straight girl compliments: OMG, I love your hair!
Gay boy compliments: YAS KWEEN WERK
Gay girl compliments: oh fuck stab me in the face, crush my dreams and hold me for ransom in an abandoned factory I love you holy shit
ScoMo says the current hit to the economy and supply chain was "obvious" and "inevitable". If it was so obvious and inevitable, why was nothing done to prevent or mitigate the worst of it? An oncoming train is obvious and inevitable, doesn't mean you just let it hit you.
#auspol
Unhelpful answers to how I’m meant to pay for food & rent during a 2+ week lockdown:
- “you should have more savings”
- “you should have a more secure job”
- “it’s only 2 weeks”
- “it’s [blank]’s fault”
- “we put money in mental health!”
- “we paid you *last* lockdown!”
@RottenInDenmark
Is Signal and Noise a contender for If Books Could Kill? I bought it like 6 years ago, kept meaning to get around it, then I’ve just watched Nate slowly disappear up his own butt over that time
Hey
@theage
, I can give you 1000 words by tomorrow on why today's anti-trans opinion piece is not just transphobic, but inaccurate and dangerous and foolish. I know it's a wild crazy notion to listen a trans person about trans issues, but I feel like it could be worth a shot.🤷♀️
@Sharky_Overlord
@AkinnaThe
You can replace woman with man, or whatever other gendered term feels right to you - dude, guy, boy, etc
That’s your prerogative as a trans masc 💕
She’s quoting a discredited COVID denier, to support a policy banning puberty blockers for trans kids.
Puberty blockers that are somehow too new and unsafe to be given to trans kids, despite existing for 50 years and still being permitted for cis children
“Given paucity of evidence, the off-label use of drugs […] in gender dysphoria treatment largely means an unregulated live experiment on children.”
Professor Carl Heneghan, director of the Centre of Evidence-Based Medicine at Oxford, 2019.
Last night I spent 15 minutes on a tram with an angry drunk hurling abuse at me, calling me a f*ggot & a tr*nny. I yelled at him to leave me alone. He goes “I have to put you in your place, for GOD!” Today’s news proves that our government agrees with him.
Vote. Them. Out.
Love that this tweet brought out a bunch of people willing to defend pretty much all of her views, and by extension, the Nazis, but not a single person wanting to defend her writing.
Just to be clear, we’re holding a referendum on whether we should have an advisory committee of indigenous folk that can give non-binding advice to parliament.
I’m voting Yes, but it really feels like this could’ve been sorted out in an email.
@trashseagull
Most people use and understand the singular they without issue. You’ll see it far more often than the very awkward “he or she.” I used it in my last tweet without any confusion.
I’m not even arguing about gender here. This is just about efficient and elegant communication.
Big idea, so stay with me on this:
Trans women aren’t trying to erase the word “woman” or “women”. We are women. We like the word “woman”! We use it all the time, for all sorts of women!
I don’t think anyone’s trying to erase “women”, but it’s definitely not us. Big fans! Huge!
Lockdown 5 feels so much worse than Lockdowns 1 & 2. Because at least during those lockdowns, there was JobKeeper, rent reductions, rental assistance, eviction moratoriums. There was at least a sense of stability & security alongside the depression & isolation.
Captain Cook discovered Australia the same way I discovered acid - he rocked up to a house party where he didn’t know anyone, saw people were having some Australia and then took way too much Australia.
Except at least I asked first.
Celebrated my second year of transition by getting a tattoo of the Gender Key from
@joe_hill
and
@GR_comics
’s Locke and Key series.
Thanks to Plastic Messiah of
@crucibletattoo
for nailing the execution.
@StrewthQueen
"It was terrible. We were just completely locked in to parenting the child we had, without any ability to change their fundamental nature. You have a kid, and you think you'll get to mould them into exactly who you want, but they're all unique individuals. It's a nightmare."
I never understand this “TERF is a slur” business. Like, you want to exclude us, it’s just accurate? Not like I’d kick up a stink if you called me a Nazi Exclusionary Radical Feminist.
Frustrating but unsurprising that the Australian media continues to “both sides” transphobia.
Infuriating and baffling how often neither side is “trans people”. Just “people who hate us” and “people who think most of us are probably fine, I assume, I don’t know any personally”
@LdogExtreme
@DahliaRabbit1
There’s no gymnastics here, dude. They has a singular meaning and a plural meaning. It’s very clear to everyone except you what the difference is. It’s very clear which I was using when.
It’s like singular you vs plural you. It’s very very basic.
@samishah
Me, outside parliament, about to light the pyre: “Sure, Scomo, if it were up to me... but, y’know, the elders gods...” *shrugs, gesturing at the sky*
Australia has had more COVID deaths this year than the previous two combined, and we’ve got over 40k new cases per day.
Australia has, as far as I can tell, a handful of professional trans athletes, if that.
Can we start hearing more policies about the real issues?
