I signed this letter as an acknowledgement of the hard work we have to do in academia and in our broader communities to address systemic issues of sexual misconduct.
Over 100 senior academics (tenure and up; or industry equivalent) wrote a letter denouncing sexual misconduct in our community, and the alleged behavior by Walter Lasecki in particular. https://t.co/LoKAGK06Kp

It is the opportunity to work with amazing students like @Orson_Xu, who conducted very impactful research during his PhD and has received several awards recognizing this work, that energizes me and brings me so much joy! Congratulations Orson!
iSchool Ph.D. grad @Orson_Xu earned numerous recognitions for his work in HCI and ubiquitous computing. Working closely with iSchool Dean and Professor @AnindDey and other scholars, Xu won the 2023 Distinguished Dissertation Award from the @UW. https://t.co/FDEbUlgZBz

So grateful for Google's support for teacher education in computer science. And thrilled about @uw_ischool's ongoing collaboration (through @amyjko!) on this with @uwcse and @UWCollegeOfEd!

We're so excited that you're joining us!
I've worked closely with the @UW_iSchool community for some years. This Fall, I will be formally joining the faculty as a quarter cross-appointment. I'll be teaching tech policy and ethics to undergrads and JDs. Thank you for welcoming me onto your world-class faculty 🙏

Many thanks to my students and other collaborators, to my mentors (@gabowd and the entire academic family) who helped me achieve this. Congratulations to my wonderful @UW_iSchool colleagues @wobbrockjo and Batya Friedman who were also recognized!
Congratulations to 3 iSchool faculty recognized as #ACM Fellows! @aninddey, Batya Friedman and @wobbrockjo were honored for their outstanding contributions to computing and information technology.

Scott was taken from his family and our community far too soon. He was an fearless advocate for our undergraduate students, and an amazing instructor. He will be deeply missed. I can't even begin to comprehend this loss.
We are heartbroken to share the news that our friend and colleague Scott Barker has passed away unexpectedly. Scott was a teaching professor and head of IT at the iSchool, and from 2007 to 2017, served as chair of the Informatics program.

This is the start, not the end. I welcome hearing about additional commitments I can take and that our communities can take to create real systemic change.

We can do better. We have to do better. In my role, I have both privilege and power. Here is what I commit to doing (borrowed liberally from colleagues):

Patterns of abuse and assault are obviously not limited to Michigan. They have occurred on every college campus, including my own. While I sincerely hope otherwise, I am not at all convinced that my university would have done better by these survivors.
