What the hell just happened?! 16th at the @IRONMANtri World Championships closing with a 2:43 marathon and going 9:24 on a brutal course! Two weeks ago I broke both my elbow and wrist. Today was never meant to happen. But I never ever gave up. And that’s all we can do 💪

Turns out actually @LondonMarathon didn’t validate my Scottish athletics membership.. Despite showing them it numerous times and contacting they wouldn’t validate it and now won’t give me a champs entry Seems a bit unfair when I hit the criteria and have the membership.. 🙃🫠
Well looks like the popularity and rise of running certainly is making the amateur ranks faster.. No London marathon champs entry for me with my 2:36 this year..! That stings just a little bit 🫠🥺🙃 #londonmarathon

We’ll see to be still injured. Closest diagnosis is just patellofemoral pain On about week 7 and still no running but cycling seems to be back and tolerating it well.. Not sure how many weeks to go and kinda given up counting or looking but a long road back it seems 🥲

This has been very interesting and the replies show a lot of people don’t realise what running 2:30 is like Sure you can jog Africa or have a running background but shooting for 2:30 is another story particularly if your PB is 2:52 or so. You can’t rush fitness!
Sometimes I wonder if folks know or realise how hard a 2:30 marathon really is.. And that trying to do it with Runna is probably even harder.. 🤦♂️😬😳

I’m really enjoying a lot of the replies to my latest tweet..
@andrewwoodroffe Pretty much any dude who can break 16:00 for 5k could run 2:30 for marathon

I suppose as the popularity of the marathon grows and more folks running it may be harder to comprehend what it takes to run so fast? I’ve seen many people this year “aiming” for sub or 2:30 and not even being within 15 mins. It’s a brutal distance the marathon!

The levels of pro triathlon now are utterly insane. After a 1.9kms swim and HARD hilly 90km bike the top 5 half marathon times.. 67/67/68/69/71 Crazy crazy level across all three disciplines. What a sport! #IMWC703

Can’t really train but CAN watch 70.3 World champs this morning, women today men tomorrow Looks like an incredible course and from my athletes I’ve heard very good things I think rotating the 70.3 course is key to that and full Ironman could do the same. Climbs make a race!

AND to add insult to injury.. My run watch of the last few years and some amazing races, sessions and memories has completely disappeared with no where to be found 🥹🫠

Got a lot of spare time so figured I might start writing again, some kind of philosophical deep blog posts that have some relevance to sport and training Anyone wish to hear the musings of a struggling injured slightly lost athlete?

You don’t have to start running with a marathon You don’t have to start triathlon with an Ironman Smaller events, races are out there to develop your endurance, take your time and build over the long game Endurance rewards the patient. Hurry slowly.
