Tips for remote learning:
🔹Should be mostly asynchronous for equity.
🔹Students value the chance to check-in for a chat to show you care.
🔹It's hard for teachers, parents and young people.
🔹Reach out for help and support if you are struggling, technically, emotionally.

So concerned am I about the unnecessary health risk of continued SQA assessments places on society that I am writing to my MSP and MP about it. If you are concerned too please do the same or at least tweet your concerns to change this.

Dear
@gtcs
any plans to ask teachers what they think of your interface for recording professional learning?
Many seem to find it time consuming to enter information. Time spent on professional learning and reflection important, time inputting less so.
Teachers have you claimed the £312 allowance for working from home?
You can claim for the whole year now irrespective of the time spent working from home.
Remember you can also claim relief on professional subscriptions such as union fees, IoP etc.

Alternative to P1 tests is to trust teacher judgement based upon thousands of interactions with the children across the year. P1 tests are unnecessary in the view of the specialists that teach young children. The test doesn't add anything.
I have a proposal. SLF should tour Scotland going to places such as Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, Stirling, Edinburgh, Dumfries, Ayr. There should be weekend sessions too. Grassroots movements like
@pedagoo
should be involved too.
You can now submit a seminar proposal for the Scottish Learning Festival. Find out this year's theme and submit your proposal by midday on Wednesday 20 February

On strike today for improved pay and conditions.
Teacher pay has decreased in real terms over the past 12 years. It is now almost 30% lower in real terms than when I started.
Current pay offer for which is still for last year 21/22 is 5%

If I can be replaced by a computer then fair enough. Preparing work for Teams/Google Classroom actually takes much more time, plus students learn better with relationships.
However if closing schools prevents spread and grandparents dying then it is worth it for a short time.
My argument
@TesScotland
that leaners should get as much time as we can give them to learn. We should move the SQA date for Higher estimates later. These are unprecedented times and for equity purposes we should do all we can for young people.

Scottish independence is inevitable as a result of dialogue like this.
Immature silliness and point scoring rather than an intelligent argument.
I'm English voted no but likely vote yes now.
Quality of MPs is getting worse. Mrs Sturgeon shines even when policy questionably.
@lewis_goodall
There is such a schism between Scotland and the UK that it seems inevitable there will be another vote.
Nichola Sturgeon has been impressive especially in contrast to incoherence from Westminster.
Scotland needs effective opposition but little to be seen just now.
@JohnMacLean2

There is a massive irony that the

Shortcuts great. Using Windows key plus full stop for symbols loads and also Windows key plus v to access all the clipboard to paste different comments as feedback.
Thanks to all who engaged with the issue of pupils going to school next week for assessments.
Haven't had a tweet with more than about 10 engagements before this one had over 2700.
A correct decision made.
SQA information to follow we can then comment on that as needed.

@adamboxer1
It shocks me that a head teacher let alone a mobility expert can be so ignorant on these matters.
Every school I've worked in have discussed gender bias, barriers to girls in physics and unconscious bias. To know nothing of this...
Scottish education reform: Of the 59 people in the room guess how many are actually teachers. Spoiler you probably will fewer guess and it is fewer than from the SQA.
Thanks for all the good wishes and presents as i leave Carnoustie High school.
It is nice to have made a little difference to the students i have taught over the years and those i have worked with.
Merry Christmas to all.
When senior pupils return after Easter it will not be to rebuild relationships, improve subject understanding or wellbeing - it will be to fulfil the Scottish Qualifications Authority’s (SQA) hodgepodge of requirements for assessment, writes a teacher ⬇️

Consistent with earlier guidance and again inconsistent with their own subject guidance that just had the three mentions of exam.
Things should be admitted to be what they are.
Similarly a pretention that the next 5 weeks are not mostly assessment focused is disengenous.

@joedale
I think all sensible mentors and schools should share their schemes of work and resources with new teachers. It is not realistic to expect you to create all the time. Unsustainable and detrimental to you and the learners.
Hoping you find someone willing to share and support.
@srinathsripath
Growing the game is required and the world cup should include more teams especially the ODI one.
Teams only get better by playing more often and against better teams.
Good win for Scotland 🏴🏏

I'm English and live in Scotland. Have never felt discriminated, hated or been unwelcome.
It is disappointing that you are looking to write a piece about being not welcome.
Of course rude people live everywhere, visitors or residents.
Specialist curriculum knowledge but also specialist subject knowledge. Structure of the curriculum on say Sciences should be different to that in say Languages.
An issue just now is things being forced to be the same.
Would love to help.
Remote learning tips:
🔹Clarity of instructions and clarity of the learning task key for success.
🔹Ask students what is working what is not and why it is hard. Get their feedback.
🔹Last time my students preferred more small tasks than one long task for sense of progress.

Would love to see more/every school having this position. Some are covered in part by different titles but with the name of pedagogy there can be no dispute about what the role is.
I hope it is a permanent post rather than a temporary one.
I would love to do a job like this.
Today, Berwickshire High School appointed a Principal Teacher: Pedagogy. I am tremendously excited about the impact this is going to have on our professional learning culture, and teaching practice across our school.

@Henry_Hepburn
If we had qualifications that articulated well at different levels and maybe allowed success at different levels than that would help. We could have three levels foundation, general and credit and award at highest level achieved, aspirational yet for all
Conversation with colleague yesterday included them wondering what changes are being discussed for next session by the SQA etc to allow for more recovery and catch-up time.
My thoughts I bet this isn’t being discussed at all and certainly we won’t know anything before Oct.
First year with longer study leave for at least 10 years. Previous school changed timetables mid study leave. Last week managed to do curriculum development, improve and change assessments something impossible otherwise.
Don't underestimate the mental health benefits.
Scottish teacher please do take part in the

Here are my responses, more time to consider would probably have made them more detailed, but it is important to respond.

reading out the SQA guidance for chemistry below that says exams.

If could have six month perhaps even a year of time without classes I’d be able to develop a better designed curriculum and some of the resources to support my teaching of it. At the moment I want to change S1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 but don’t have the time to do it.
Happy to go to work to teach those who are key workers children. Also happy to distance teacher those at home. Less happy
@sqanews
say complete course assessments so some more students come in. Why? Surely closure for health reasons and this just increases potential transmission.
Some numbers on my 1st week (new school).
6 classes
4 courses
110 students
6 live sessions
23 tasks set
10 recorded videos
14 new forms quizzes
350 quizzes set
227 forms quizzes in, reviewed and returned
30 word/pic handed back and marked
50+ hours working ?
15 student emails

I've attended three ResearchEd events in Scotland and found it to be really helpful. The sessions from teachers have given ideas, knowledge that has enhanced my practice and teaching. The connections and discussions after the events on Twitter equally valuable.

as if one is unaware of unconscious bias, gender bias and discrimination. So many working hard to overcome obvious bias and unconscious bias. Physics is important for economic growth and we need a range of backgrounds, race, gender.

exam timetable is now available . It’s compressed allowing for more teaching time. As far as possible we have minimised the no. of learners with exams on the same day, or close together. Exams will start on Mon 10 May and end on Fri 04 June.
No mixed view from me, I would ban all use in class.
Much addiction to them, Snapchat, TikTok, games (Tetris, Crossyroad, Football manager, Darts, Pool, Casino, Slots).
Need a calculator use one of those rather than the phone.
@evapeterannax
So sorry to read this. You are one of 31 H Psychology students to be downgraded by 3 grades. As a teacher i have no understanding why anyone was reduced by more than one grade.
9 schools had estimates that were completely accepted. How can that be fair that none were adjusted?
Tips for remote learning, clarity
🔹Clarity of task = two click test, add hyperlinks so work is accessed in two clicks.
🔹Make sure documents uploaded are accessible across platforms and for task requested.
🔹PDF good for reading, not good if you want blanks completed

So cat brought in a mouse sometime last night, Son on bed notices mouse behind pillow.
Cue attempts to catch mouse, cat brought in to help, bed lifted up and down. At one point cat gets mouse then lets it away again. Then mouse runs up my pyjamas!
Eventually caught and put out.

We need to be looking at the curriculum and the lack of articulation between BGE and senior phase. In addition the poor articulation between qualifications in the senior phase especially N4 and N5. Looking solely at assessment will not solve all.

Sadly some of the PM decisions are bizarre so it's no wonder Wales, NI and Scotland do something else.
Get back to the office being one of the bizarre messages.
Those in Wales, NI and Scotland just listen to FM and not PM, it's not difficult.
