Or Shaylin, who, after her Alberta town voted to ban rainbow crosswalks and pride flags, is more dedicated than ever to making her community a safe space to grow up queer.

Honoured to have folks like Esmail share their stories. They fled Yemen (where homosexuality is punishable by death) and experienced their first pride ever this month.

Lagimodière now has a Métis, queer MLA who grew up here and whose ancestors are from here. That's a big deal! I'm excited to see him seated in the Manitoba Legislature, and to see what he'll accomplish for our province.

My job means that I can't weigh in on politics, but now that the results are finally in I can say: I'm damn proud of my husband. He worked so hard for this, and is going to be an excellent MLA.
A huge thank you to the people of Lagimodière for putting their trust in me as their next MLA. We will accomplish great things together! I'm excited to join the @mbndp team as we work to improve healthcare and invest in caring communities.

And if you protested in support of 'parental rights', lose my number and get out of my life.

I wish I could say that leaving the counter-protest in Winnipeg this morning I felt a sense of pride. Instead, I felt angry, scared and sad. The queer community needs your support now, and we expect you to show up for us.

Today felt truly awful. Please check in on your queer and trans friends and relations. Despite what a devastating number of people across the country want you to believe - the lives of queer and trans youth are not up for debate.

Big city prides are great, but showing up for small town and community prides like Pembina Valley feels especially important these days. So much joy in these streets, and not a counter-protestor in sight!

"Jason Gobiel then made a long, detailed and unambiguous motion expressing opposition to book banning and full support for 2SLGBTQ+ community - passed with one exception - to thunderous applause."

"Seiklecki stuck to her guns and echoed everything from Hackenschmidt presentation to much heckling, a bunch of people stood up turning their backs to the board table."

"Frequent booing and chair had to call for order and threatened one person with expulsion if he didn't stop heckling. Then the trustees responded individually, and with one exception (Seiklecki) had very strong words about Hackenschmidt's presentation, including chair Ross."

The meeting ended after about six hours. I had to start the drive home around 11pm, but here's how my Dad (who stuck it out the whole time) summed it up for our family group chat. He starts by talking about a delegate who was pro book ban and who used some incendiary language:

I have a long drive back to Winnipeg, so I'm calling it quits after four hours. There are still lots of folks there who seem to be in it for the long-haul, and the livestream is still going:

The last time I was in this gym, I was a closeted, often unhappy, high school student. I could have never imagined it being filled with so many supportive allies and queer folks. I'm feeling some feelings about that 🥹

It took three hours to get to the first delegate who supports the formation of a book "review committee".
