The problem is that I believe unfunded mini-pupillages tend to advantage those from already advantaged backgrounds - ie those that can afford to spend a week in Chambers learning without earning.

To recap: I think un-assessed mini-pupillages are important - they give you a chance to see what the job of a barrister is like without the pressure of being assessed. Equally they provide a meaningful dress-rehearsal for assessed mini-pupillages, when your performance will count.
