“What is the conversation of lovers? Compared with the ordinary talk it is as bread to stone. My heart gets dizzy…clutch wide at the railings, leaning out over the tiny city, its clockwork shadows so far below. One shriek goes flaring and flattening away down the valley. Gone.”

“They are passing, posthaste, posthaste, the gliding years—to use a soul rending Horatian inflection. The years are passing, my dear, and presently nobody will know what you and I know. Our child is growing: the roses of Paestum, misty Paestum, are gone.” Vladamir Nabokov

Also, if your first move is toward disqualification as opposed to conversation or finding a middle ground or some space for conversation: you are practicing politics wrong.

Lest there be confusion. I think people have been practicing politics ineffectively. You need to be pragmatic instead of an idealogue who rules out everyone who doesn't agree with you on every issue.

Sorry. I just can't take it anymore. We need to go back to an agrarian lifestyle where we know our neighbor's cows! Or something. Just can't take the political takes anymore.

Here's the one big takeaway from x or y election is pretty damn 2025. The US is huge. The interests of those places are pretty diverse and different messages resonate more in different places. The obsession with everything being national is part of the mess we're all in.

I'm never going to read Stoner because then I'd have an opinion about Stoner discourse. Right now I'm able to blithely float above the discourse without a care in the world.

Me: Tastes really vary, and it's interesting to see what draws us to different books, and I don't judge. Also me: Oh? You didn't like Septology? Maybe that's because you hate art and don't have a soul.

“One night I dreamed of such a world. I rowed upon the surface of the moon and there was no wind, there were no moments, for the moon is as empty as the inside of an eye and not even the sound of a shadow falling falls there.” Anne Carson
