2/x I spend my days doing taxes for free for low income families. Other members work at transitional housing for homeless kids. But in the name of government efficiency, they cut a program that consists of .02% of the FY2025.

Can’t say I didn’t see this coming but thanks to DOGE I am officially unemployed. DOGE illegally cut $400m from the Americorps programs grants resulting in over 30,000 hardworking members losing their jobs today. This program exists solely for the purpose of helping people. 1/x

2/x We are paid workers at non-profits around the county paid by congressional approved government grant. My program alone,which is one of hundreds, serves thousands of people a year in our local community. Our program is everything the American dream should be. #saveamericorps

Hey so with everything going on with #americorps (the job I work.) I wanted to clear up very important wording I’ve seen used incorrectly. We have referred to in all news outlets as volunteers. We are not volunteers. We serve in either a full time or part-time capacity. 1/x

This program is(or now was) building and rebuilding homes for those impacted by Hurricane Helene. That is who DOGE decided was a “drain on American resources.” My current job is in a sister branch of Americorps that is as of yet unaffected. Not holding my breath.
