🌟🌟Official statement from tenured professor Mickie Mwanzia Koster on her unjust termination by @UTTyler. Dr. Koster’s termination without due process is in violation of UT System policy and @AAUP standards. @lilykepner @McGeeReports

✴️✴️✴️ In response to @UTAustin President @JCHartzell’s letter to faculty and staff dated yesterday, we’re asking him and Provost @SharonLWood to include student, staff, and faculty in developing institutional policies to implement #SB17, which bans #DEI, and #SB18, which weakens

⭐️TOMORROW! Let's pack the Texas House for the debate on anti-tenure #SB18. It's third on the Major Calendar, so perhaps soon after 10 am. We expect the debate to be lively. You might wear a college/university shirt for identification. #ProtectTenure #AcademicFreedom #TxLege⭐️

The revised versions of SB 17 and 18 are still problematic. SB 17 essentially makes DEI unlawful, with possible exceptions for research and accreditation but not for student services. SB 18 leaves faculty open to political retribution for expressing unpopular views.
Cautiously optimistic about these changes to Texas SB 16, 17, and 18. But I haven't seen the revised bill text, and I still hope they are voted down entirely. Nothing in these bills would actually help students, faculty, or staff at universities.

What’s happening? 1500 assistant professors at UT Austin and Texas A&M plus more at other public colleges and universities are dusting off their resumes. This includes a significant number of faculty of color. Not a good week for #HigherEducation #academicfreedom #DEI #txlege

#DEI programs “teach underrepresented students that their lives matter, they help majority students better relate to people from different backgrounds than their own, and such initiatives lack crucial funding. We need more not fewer of these programs”—KarmaChavez, @utaustin prof
