At the forefront of my mind I suppose is the example of Marc Guehi, 18 months at swansea then got a 20 odd mil move to Palace. Probably the wrong decision by Chelsea to sell, but his profile and development benefited from consistency rather than sporadic apps in cup games for CFC.

Rationale being it gives the player some continuity, but also the loan club a bit of a stake in the player's development. I mentioned Watford because there was some talk of a tie up/cooperation and also the training ground just next door.
