According to today's OIV figures, last year 106m hectolitres of wine were exported on the global marketplace. There are 7.88bn people on the planet, so that works out at just over 74cl per person โ€“ one bottle for all of us, allowing for a small spillage. Nature is in balance.

Did you know that the Government's proposed alcohol duty reforms will result in price increases for 95% of red wines? It's unfair, unjustified and unnecessary - which is why we're calling for a #FairWineTax

A great read on page 2 of this weekendโ€™s Financial Times about why Rishi Sunak โ€˜s proposals for a new way of taxing alcohol would a disaster for wine - more specifically, wine producers, retailers AND consumers in the UK. Where tโ€ฆ https://t.co/nJgTO2wUyC

Meet our Top 100 judges: Philip Amps "The most important wine competition any independent merchant should pay attention to. Wines only available to indies, judged by indies. Any wine in the Top 100 should be looked at very carefully by indies!" https://t.co/qfhgGpFXcF

There are so many reasons the proposed tax policy fails in its aim to be fairer and simpler. Different rates for wine beer and spirits at same ABV, incredibly complex to administer, only wine to be taxed more... Please complete the consultation

These crazy duty increases on wine are going to affect everyone in the supply chain. The deadline for the industry to make its case against them is the end of this month. Our story includes the link you need to respond to this sneaky and chaotic plan. https://t.co/mqk28gGCaM
