And each of those issues requires activists, advocates, agitators, artists, care workers, entertainers, healers, teachers & more. You, a human with limited capacity, can’t do it all. Choose your issue(s), choose your role(s), get connected to community and get to work.

There’s a lot to (un)learn & do to address: the climate crisis, immigration, LGBTQ+ rights, abortion access, fair wages & income inequality, dark money in politics, criminal justice reform, international conflict, etc. It won’t all be complete in Jan. 2025.

The fight ahead is not JUST about getting as many people to survive in this country until January 2025. It’s about co-creating conditions where EVERYONE is safe, healthy, & in good relationship with themselves and others.

AND that being physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually “alright” is more a matter of utilizing coping skills and community support in the face of adversity & oppression.

While there were beautiful moments from Jan. 2017-Jan. 2021 there was also A LOT of harm that came at the hands of the US president & those who did his bidding. Today in 2024, I know that not all of us are going to make it out of this next Trump presidency alive.

At 26, a scared yet hopeful, “Master’s of Social Justice” grad student & aspiring RJ practitioner, I thought things would be hard, but we could organize, advocate, & community care our way through a Trump presidency. Now that seems naive. Because many didn’t make it out alive.

Clint Smith’s 2019 poem (when people say "we have made it through worse before") hasn’t left my head since Tuesday. Kendrick Lamar’s “alright” was stuck in my head and on my Facebook profile on November 9, 2016.

That's not to say that we're building a perfect future without conflict or harm. But when we embrace ancestral values of interconnection, focus our time on building & strengthening equitable & trusting relationships, we mitigate harm is much less likely to occur AND

And it's not my (or your) responsibility to figure it out. I do know that my (or probably your) time & energy is better spent building capacity to embody Restorative ways of being so future generations won't have to deal with this.

What we're witnessing now is a public shaming & media circus that PROBABLY won't result in meeting the needs of anyone except a certain someone who craves any kind of attention. So what is an abolitionist Restorative approach to this situation? I have no f***ing idea.

With a Restorative Justice lens Justice = meeting the needs of impacted people and communities Accountability = taking responsibility for harmful behavior and taking corrective actions to repair and make sure it doesn't happen again.

its hard to imagine a world where this person would in taking accountability for the harm caused in this, or any situation. In the unlikely event this indictment results in a conviction, and a conviction results in any kind of meaningful punishment, it's not justice.
