This road has been long and difficult. I’m gonna take some time away to reflect and rebuild. This isn’t the end for me. Thanks to everyone for their support. Congratulations to all this year’s Olympians.
A thread: I'm sure a lot of you have heard about the young man who was forced to cut his hair during a wrestling match in order to avoid being disqualified. That young man is Andrew Johnson of Buena High School in New Jersey. Let me start off by saying, I commend Andrew for
After winning Olympic gold medals in 2006 and 2010, Shaun White was heavily favored to repeat, but failed to medal in the 2014 Games. Today he redeemed himself. 2018 Olympic Champion. After 4 years, he’s back. Basically what I’m saying is, thank you Shaun.
I thought it would make for a cool video if I did my last set of pull-ups with my son Beacon on my back. I couldn’t figure out why he was choking me until I watched this. He was in survival mode & hanging on for dear life.🤣Seemed like a good idea at the time. P.s. He survived 😂
Wrestlers. Be disciplined with your diet. You have the rest of your life to eat anything you want, but a very short time to be the best in the state/country/world. You know what tastes better than pizza now? Championship pizza.
I went full Desanto mode at the end. You guys have to forgive me, I was a little fired up! Finals tonight at 4pm eastern! All 8 Americans wrestling for gold! 🇺🇸
Sure your son is competitive.
But is he reliable? Is he kind? Is he coachable? Will he be a good teammate?
Sports parents, we should be asking ourselves these questions as we raise up our children.
Let’s not just be great in skill, but also in character.
Celebrating the success of others is the best way to cleanse your heart of bitterness. Don’t let jealousy make you start hating on someone that you should be learning from.
I’m such a big wrestling fan. Our sport may never be main stream. But when two wrestlers are scrapping and laying it on the line, it’s a beautiful thing to watch.
Imagine being so insecure that you feel it necessary to bash women’s soccer. Then imagine having the audacity to do it on the day they became World Champions. If you don’t want to celebrate with them, here’s a tip: be quiet and move on.
There aren’t any collegiate coaches in the stands recruiting your 7 year olds just yet. They don’t give out scholarship offers to 55 pound wrestlers. At some point much later in their careers, winning will be important and the stakes will be higher. Until then let them have fun
Really classy Jordan Burroughs as a commentator saying you’d target Starocci’s injury in competition. Sad that you think that way and even if you do you should keep that to yourself it’s unprofessional. For all your accomplishments I’d expect more.
So I finally unpacked my bags from this year’s World Championships and I went to put my medal in my trophy case with my son Beacon.
Beacon: “Dad can I see your medal?”
Me: “Sure buddy.”
Beacon: “Whar color is it?”
Me: “Bronze.”
Beacon: “What’s that?”
Do I laugh or cry? 😂😭
If your kid wrestles, chances are someday they’ll find themselves in a dark corner of an arena, with their heads buried in their hands devastated from defeat. May we all remember the humanity of the competitors this weekend and choose compassion.
Your first trials after college was to qualify for Budapest in 13’. 5 years later you’re a world champ in the same place you intended to start. You stayed the course. Champions pedigree. It was only so long before you were able to reveal yourself to the world. Proud of you bro 🇺🇸
There’s beauty in every struggle; new life in every new day. There’s something about 3rd that has a nice ring to it. I’m thankful for my bronze, but even more excited about Baby Burroughs number three coming Christmas 2019!

I’m thankful for every opportunity that I get to compete and grow. The challenge of doing something great is what keeps me motivated everyday. Even if my hand isn’t raised, my head will still be. I’m not done yet.
I’m proud to be an American. The flag flys high at our home no matter who the leader of our country is. But as a representative of the USA on the world stage, I stand a bit taller today knowing that our new President will represent our country with class and dignity.
I'm really disturbed by the response from some of those in the wrestling community to the celebration of this year's historic 5 black NCAA Champions. We claim that we want to "grow wrestling" yet oppose our media outlets sharing groundbreaking developments in our sport.
I’m not working with Conor. I’m attempting to win a World Championship of my own in October. I wish him the best of luck in his upcoming title fight with Khabib.
Dad’s, I’m sorry that you didn’t achieve your athletic goals growing up. But hammering your son into an elite wrestler won’t bring you redemption. It’ll only compromise your chance at a genuine relationship with him.
once seen a person required to cut their hair during a match. This is nonsense. As a referee, you are required to check the hair and nails of all wrestlers BEFORE a match. My opinion is that this was a combination of an abuse of power, racism, and just plain negligence.
9 medals!

What a performance this week by
@USAWrestling
Congratulations everyone on this achievement. You made us all extremely proud. It’s only up from here!
Someday I’ll miss this. I’ll miss pushing my body to the limit. I’ll miss the anxiety that builds up in the tunnel. I’ll miss the announcer calling my name and the cheers of the fans as I emerge from the smoke. Someday it’ll all be over. Today isn’t that day. World Cup Day 2.
As heroic as it was for Andrew to step up in the midst of what was happening, it shouldn't have got that far. The parents and coaches of the Buena wrestling team should have intervened. This young man should have been protected in this moment. I'm sure his hair was a strong part
Note to all young wrestlers, you can still be the best in the world without telling everybody about it on social media. Just put your head down and put the work in.
