I met abusive people and people with abusive tendencies who didn't know they were abusive. if you'd put them on a lie detector test asking, "did you abuse so and so" they would pass that test. not because they're such good liars. but because they don't understand what they did.

when a survivor says stuff like "i as a victim of abuse myself can tell if another person is a real victim or not" no they can't. we can't "tell". and something else:.

i know helping to create a space in which people can speak up is not actually easy. and I don't even think it has to do with being a victim yourself. contrary to popular belief, surviving abuse and violence doesn't make you an expert or better in recognising abusers imo.

so I have never named my abuser, never reported, never raised accusations. and to this day, I feel genuinely strange when people immediately leap to someone's defence just because he has been lovely to them.

some of it happened in the presence of others but without context they did not appear to be abuse to others. my friends witnessed scenes and genuinely were baffled by my "unfair accusations" , by my overreaction.

but i myself have been abused by a person who was beloved and popular, a guy who was great to everyone, and the thing was i was neither beloved nor popular. most of the abuse did not happen when anyone else was around OR.

it is always challenging when these things happen. my first emotional kneejerk reaction is to not believe the accuser especially if it is about a celebrity i personally love. also all my interactions with the celebrity were genuinely great.

although I love fandom and am generally an uncritical, fawning stan in the worst sense I also feel strongly about abuse, violence, sexual harassment. it's not easy for me, but I will always support a person who speaks up about harassment.

absolutely this! not implying op claimed otherwise, but the film industry is still made up by (cis) men, many producers, studio bosses, and execs are men, and the system that denies the existence of male victims of abuse/sexual harassment is patriarchy.
