Congrats to LSY for having the highest rated fantasy reincarnation/time travel romance drama of this year! Congrats to BIH for doing really well in his first lead role in prime time (and not being eaten by knetz!)
The palace isn’t nice place where you need to overcome difficulties by defeating enemies or finding love. It will forever remain a bad place where bottom feeders try to get to the top.
Min Kyunghoon: "She have been on Knowing Bros before."
Heechul: "Hwang Chiyeol!"
MKH: "No..no"
Lee Jinho: "Heo Sungtae!"
MKH: "She's an actress, really pretty and appear a lot in sageuk drama.."
LJH: "
#LeeSeyoung
!"
?: "Correct!!" 🤣

The last few days have convinced me that Lee Seyoung, Hong Kyung, and Koo Kyo Hwan need to be casted together ASAP and shipped off to every award show to promote!
And by the way if it isn’t clear. Deokim is his mistress not his legitimate wife. The guy has been betrothed since forever so he can never over her a family even if he wanted to.
Also, his duty is to get an heir. So that’s why kings get concubines. Guy can’t even promise her to be faithful to her 🥲 cause if the children die (as it happened) then he is going to get another concubine even if he doesn’t want.
And maybe you think the king is all powerful and can change everything. But reality is he needs to arbitrate between different demands of different powerful members of society (remember all the council meetings?)
I need to poll who is the worst crazy on MDL
- those who can’t separate actor from character
- those who don’t know what genre they are watching
- find romance everywhere
- Have never watched a drama in their life
Joseon as society is very rigid and patriarchal and women have very few rights. And being the mistress of the king grants you some and takes away others. I’m sure you might not love to be locked up baby maker who barely sees her very attractive husband.
Cue the tweet that talks about how most people watch shows through protagonist centered morality. Breaking Bad was also similar situation so much so the actress wrote an article about the hate towards her !
i'll NEVER forget how the majority of you treated ko yurim as public enemy

the kid had an immense amount of pressure and expectations placed upon her at 17 she had to carry her family's burdens you clearly don't understand the level of financial insecurity that poverty induces
I think fans often don’t realize how much the bts are also fan service no more different than the fan service idols do. So, the “acting” never stops during the duration of the bts that are filmed as well.
men easily bag deasangs for bare minimum performances while woman are required to have to move mountains and maybe after years of heavy lifting in most projects they might
I know everyone wants their faves to be top star with millions of followers left and right. But, I sometimes fame is a poison 🥲 and doesn’t lead to anything good.
people often forget that previous child actresses/actors had a hard time in transitioning from their child image into adult ones, it was a taxing journey and the fact that they’re still here in the industry after more than a decade and getting all these lead roles… (1/2)
park eunbin: "in reality, i didn't have lots of heart fluttering moments. it is because i'm separating my character from my own life. i guess i have a strong heart."
Someone needs to call out those writers or ask them to explain why they feel the need to write fl “leads” with no intention to build their character up..
Asian fan culture can be a bit. Here is my rank of craziness
1. Cdrama fans - obsessed with proving how important their bias is via stats or endorsements or fashion shows
1. Shippers - lack logic and coherent thoughts make connections from smallest things
Something absolutely bizarre to me as Western fan is actor fandom fighting. Just never experienced it. In West, fantasy/sci-fi crowd can be intense, but usually squabbling over the franchises, but Asian fan rivalries spill into real life impact on *actors*😬
Scary, and wrong.

Very important words. Not every project will be a masterpiece, actors know this, but sometimes, they choose these “works” to experiment and stretch themselves. So it’s important for fans to realise this and support their endeavours.
My hot theory is that seeing that only makjang shows are getting 20% recently; she reverted back to her roots of sprinkling makjang. Win-win cause int fans love the pairing and domestic fans love Makjang.
You know if we were back 20 years ago, we wouldn't have complained about QOT and PJE. Kdramas back then had all the tropes we absolutely hate now and we LOVED and DEVOURED them. We can only blame too much for choice, ourselves for evolving, and writers for not.

@sugarchantilly
I adored him in this one not because his character is greenflag but because it subverted my expectations of what to expect of him. It is the SP to Healer for me.
My take is kdramas shouldn’t at all talk about other countries. They lack the nuance and subtleties to portray other countries or to make criticism. So it all comes off as half assed stereotype.
One thing that annoys me is that in Kdramas you really don’t see major stars play supporting roles. In Turkey, you do have that but in SK it is so looked down upon.
I was watching
#CallItLove
and thinking how the two male leads both hold back. So, it is interesting and unglamorized take on how people experience and process trauma
I do love these new melo romance dramas.
#InterestofLove
and
#CallItLove
both tell stories of de-glamourised love that brings you a touch closer to reality, BUT still have all the tragedy, triumph, irony, and sincerity of everyday kdramas.
It's good. Give more.
Again I repeat, you don’t know these people except seeing them on tv or insta. You can’t tell anything about them: sexuality, personality, drug use, work ethic ..
Worst kdrama twt take is definitely that all these actors are friends when they might hate each other or don’t care or fell apart after their show is done
I’m not hating just I think that the historical context below really helps with the show. I wouldn’t reco this work if you are unfamiliar with actual palaces..
My hot take is: you know how prestigious an award show is by how many of the nominees attend. If every attendee is a winner and there isn’t even a nominee list, it is barely disguised PR show named an award show.
Like genuinely, i have nothing against anyone but tell me what's the point of an award show if everyone wins 😭😭😭 the title of these awards don't even make sense like 😭
So ask yourself: what about all these FL leads who never get to shine because writer just sees them as romantic add on or will bastardize the storyline just to make the ml lead more awesome?
That’s one thing kdramas fail to explain! I’m sure you can think of many historical figures who got wacked when their interests didn’t align with powerful or plebice!
And maybe you think the king is all powerful and can change everything. But reality is he needs to arbitrate between different demands of different powerful members of society (remember all the council meetings?)
The other thing I appreciate about
#Callitlove
that it portrays family relationships with sensitivity. You can’t always cut off the relationship completely and sometimes there are disagreements..
!!!!! Sageuk part is really needed to establish Yeonwoo and her relationship not only with Taeha but also with her mom and mother in law plus Sawol too!
#TheGoodBadMotherEp8
pre-release!!!
The Jouri People came to Kangho's house initially to meet Youngsoon because they felt bad only to be surprised with Kangho proudly standing and walking!!! Kyaaakk!!!

Do you really need masterpiece in this era? I’m sure dumb popular shows on Netflix have done more for actors careers than some masterpiece you think of
hyojoo: “i want to try doing a melo again. it’s been long.”
haein: “right. it’s been years since i tried melo too. i want to do one again. so if given chance, we could meet in a project right?”
hyojoo: “you’re seeing this right? anybody…”
WE CHEERED SO LOUDD
Sk version of Schitt’s Creek..Actually, that will work well as a weekender. A chaebol family loses their fortune and needs to live in a tiny small apartment 🙏
I mean…whoever was tweeting that well we should be allowed to say negative things about our faves work..I hear you and you should know I have a hot take about every show my faves starred in ..
Some thoughts:
1. Kdrama twt favours certain shows (Netflix , hot stars or hallyu , romance) which isn’t all of what Netflix audience wants
2. Also, big fanbases (hallyu , idols) May lead you to overestimate popularity of shows
The only good thing going on NETFLIX right now is Korean Contents.... Bloodhounds was a good drama for me as a regular drama watcher but one of my irl friend told this was one of the best action drama she has seen....
@SandiKT
I think combination..I read that Netflix in SK has like 10mil users. So, I think that’s what they watch plus this year had a lot of famous screenwriters: KES, PHY..
while women had to go through various difficult roles before they get the recognition they deserve.
worse, even, is if they get partnered with hallyu actors, the recognition they get must be credited to the fame of the actor.
"she only got famous bcs of him" 😵💫
Let’s talk about this..I think there are bunch of reasons. First, kdrama watchers want romance and really don’t see women as separate from men and relationships.

I always wonder if they can easily understand Jeongjo's position as The King, and make it as an excuse for all the hurtful things he did to Deokim, doesn't it mean that they're quite familiar with Joseon royal court. Then why is it so hard for them to understand Deokim?
How much have they changed from the web novel ? Yuri is described as weird and passionate, her whole style is very flamboyant, and there is like no mention of her being Miss Korea vs in novel description her appearance is mentioned a lot

Awards are never given according to those who can act. It's a combination of factors including cast popularity, drama buzz, ratings. Even if it's acting awards by panel of judges, it's also dependent on these factors. Awards are a bonus but not a benchmark of one's acting skills.
If I were an actress and I see my fans shipping me with an actor that ate into more than half of production’s budget, I’m going to stone them with my shoes 😩
My fave carrying a show on his/her own is never a compliment for me - it just means the show must be lacking. When everything comes together in harmony, that's usually means my fave has chosen well and proved their mettle in firm collaboration with others. That satisfies.
It is that they are written to fulfill certain fantasy. Handsome smart man is extremely devoted to a women. Of course, if he hurts the woman it is fine because he is good looking, has a sad back story, or he is very devoted to the woman
I need writers to start writing fun romcoms with char and plot development again. So everyone can see it isn’t complicated and it can be fun and can be light
Please redefine complicated. It doesn’t mean as if you need to create a full page analysis. WLF doesn’t require it but it has char and plot dev and it is relatable stuff about being young adult.
Recognition for actresses is hard in kdrama world…basically they need a writer who is invested in their character…wrong script or wrong director really can fuck up their career and if they don’t have fame from other career path say idols or singers
