On Sunday a team of 32 of us headed from the midlands to the north to run 13.1 miles in memory of my mum as “Sue’s Crewe”. We raised thousands of pounds towards @PancreaticCanUK to help fund life saving/extending research. It was my mums favourite weekend of the year!

Scientists are in the process of getting a breath test available in clinics that will be able to detect a number of silent cancers like this one. Please continue to support any campaigns for pancreatic cancer. 1 in 2 people are diagnosed in A&E, when it’s too late.

Unfortunately after being taken very seriously by the incredible doctors & all staff @UHDBTrust ED, 8 hours later she was diagnosed, and 12 weeks later to the day she died in @UHDBTrust @UHDB NMU (the most incredible place and team 💙).

My mum (age 70) had unremitting stomach pain, wasn’t able to lie flat, fatigue (due to very uncontrolled type 1c diabetes from the cancer, we later found out). The subtle deterioration of liver function markers in her bloods gave the GP a gut feeling & advised hospital admission.

The awareness of this campaign is brilliant. Although the symptoms of stage 4 metastatic pancreatic cancer with widespread liver mets was a lot more subtle for my mum. She was still running up to 8 miles! See comments for her symptoms…
Symptoms of pancreatic cancer can be caused by lots of things, which can make it hard to diagnose. It’s important to be checked by a GP if things don’t feel normal for you, or if any symptoms change or get worse. More info ➡️ https://t.co/l95RQ2bsNo

Todd was an excellent speaker at the Marathon Medical conference. Anyone interested in sports medicine, this is worth a watch 👀
Our final speaker at this year’s @marathonmed conference was Dr Todd Leckie, who shared how to diagnose and manage exertional heat illness. Watch his talk here: #MM40

My mum was always so shocked by this and was desperate to campaign for better training in exercise prescription. 🏃♂️ 🏋🏽♀️ 🏊🏼
Many physiotherapists report feeling unprepared to prescribe exercise! 😱 Which is not surprising when you consider that in 2024 40% of physio undergraduate programmes provide no training on exercise prescription!🤦♂️ https://t.co/QdWjRDwoDM

"Astonishingly, we also found that the bones of some runners improved after the marathon. In ten volunteers who had changes in their bone marrow that would normally have signalled pre-arthritis .... these signs vanished on the MRI after the marathon."

The more ours joints are used, the stronger the bones and muscles surrounding them become.
