Tonight, I finally got to meet our hero, Afzal, and his family 19 months after he heroically and successfully led ~50 Americans to safety and out of Afghanistan. I got to break the fast with them at their home in Dallas, Texas with traditional Afghan food. They’re doing so well.
In last days of the Airlift, a Afghan stepped up to lead a group of 50 Americans trying to make it to the airport amidst the chaos. They survived gunfire and explosions, and eventually got out with help from CIA. He was our hero and I will meet him tomorrow for the first time.
