The RBI basically whipped this note out of thin air. The only cost it incurred was probably around 2rupees to print the note. Put around way, the RBI spent 2 rupees and created 100 rupees in face value and the profit for the central bank is derived from putting that

It has to 'buy' the note and transfer the full face value of 100 rupees to the RBI coffers.

Seigniorage /ˈseɪnjərɪdʒ/ This is just a fancy tern for the profits that the bank make by printing currency. Think about it this way. If the RBI prints a 100 rupees note and give it to a bank for circulation, the bank doesn't get it for free.
