Well, I have hardly any followers. But recent news has made me decide off off this platform. Folks who want to find me know where to find me! So long, space cowboy…

So I became a manager to grow my skills. To learn new things. And boy am I! What I’m learning now: my IC skills don’t necessarily translate to my new role. That’s ok. It’s long past time I empty my cup. I just hope I fill it with the right things.

To make it easier for developers to find the right SDK for their integration, we pulled out information that was buried on the libraries page and moved it into distinct pages. We rolled out these docs to users today. You can find the new section, here: https://t.co/rUjXrRZLsZ.

I mean, to be clear, you can be a great developer and a great writer! Nothing wrong with that. But you’re not obligated to become so.

You can be a brilliant developer… …and not be a great writer. It’s okay. It’s why some of us became technical writers: To bridge the gap between code and content.

Fascinated that my @ouraring detected that I was under the weather. Annoyed that I tested positive for Covid. 🙃

Hey @AlaskaAir My wife and son have been waiting for 45 minutes for their bags and no sign of anyone’s bags get! What do they need to do for you to honor your guarantee?

Every time I hear my brother play, I am astounded. I simply must share his latest work. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do: https://t.co/6RlqncDtno

You have a list of 2 items. You want to introduce that list by saying: "This list contains two items:" Don't. Instead, say: "This list contains the following items:" Sincerely, A writer who adds a 3rd item and forgets to update the introductory sentence. You're welcome.

If you view technical documentation as a chore, or just another item to check off before launch… Hire a technical writer and listen to them. You, your development processes, and your users will be better for it!

Take a moment and read what you’ve written out loud. If you have to take a breath before finishing a sentence, that sentence is too long.

Passive voice: “The ball was thrown by Jill.” Active voice: “Jill threw the ball.” In technical writing, use active voice as often as you can. When do you not use it? For me, when the actor is unknown or hard to explain: “When foo happens, an error is thrown.”

Writing reminder: Whenever possible, put the focus on the user, not the feature or product. Products don’t get things done. People do!
