Always epic when you find a spot away from the tourists and out of the wind. Constantly blown away by the stunning Esperance coast line 💕🌊

Anyone finishing harvest in the next couple of weeks, and have good operators looking for more work? We have 2 crew heading off 15th December. Looking for 2x header/chaser operators from 15-20th Dec. to help finish harvest until 10th Jan. Plenty of ripping work after too

Realistically majority of our canola flowering July-aug so: 2022 July–Aug: Wettest months, Darkest months, Cooler days 2025 July–Aug: Brighter August,Warmer temps, Higher ETo = drier canopy, Better-timed moisture → Stronger pollen viability + podset

🌾 Bottom line: 2025 gave us the holy trinity of canola seasons: 🌧️ Moist winter ☀️ Bright, dry flowering 🌞 Warm, dry finish Thoughts??

🌞 FINISH (Sep–Oct) Every station showed the same pattern: 2022 = 70–110 mm in October 2025 = 6–14 mm A warm, dry finish in 2025 meant: ✓ Big seed ✓ High oil ✓ Fast drydown ✓ Clean harvest

🌼 FLOWERING (Aug–Sep) This is where 2025 really pulled ahead. Brighter, drier flowering with higher radiation and lower humidity boosted: ✓ Pollen viability ✓ Pod set ✓ Seeds/m² 2022 was cloudier and wetter → poor flower efficiency.

🌿 VEGETATIVE GROWTH (Jun–Jul) 2025 winter = wetter + slightly warmer + higher ETo (drier air). That combo = big biomass, deep rooting and low disease pressure. 2022 was darker and drier → restricted biomass ceiling.

🌱 ESTABLISHMENT (Apr–May) 2025 had strong April breaks and better follow-up rain. 2022 struggled with patchy breaks and higher early evaporative demand. Result → earlier, stronger, more uniform emergence.

Been questioning why 2025 Canola yields were a big step up on 2022 canola yields (*aside from nutrition, variety choice, weed control*) so have dug through some weather data from Lort River, Cascade, Scaddan Mt Ney. Chat gave me some help but here are some patterns. See thread.

2025 brought some of the highest mildew pressure we’ve seen in Esperance. F&G trial results show well-timed fungicide programs sustaining 140%+ of untreated yield, while driving flag infection below 5% and significantly reducing head infection in Sceptre.

2022 vs 2025 Canola yield maps show what happens when tile drains kick in — big gains for Esperance’s high rainfall cropping country when we beat waterlogging. (Map showing current drains, have been steadily covering hectares over the years)

As a general rule yields has been up on what they looked👌🏻. Harvest really starting to get cranked up in the district now.

For anyone that hasn’t heard about this. Amazing bit of technology being used to map snail numbers and spread in paddocks. Have a number of clients utilising this technology and excited to help try tackle the ongoing snail war that we are currently not winning 🐌☠️

Harvest 25 away in Esperance. Mt Ney in the background makes for a speccy view. Stay safe out there. Ag is such an amazing system to be a part of. Get to see a full circle every year & then start again to try improve, learn & refine.

Offtypes in hybrid canola. An ongoing & frustrating issue for farmers & seed companies.

Rest in peace, Patricia Routledge 🙏🏻 In memory of her, I encourage everyone to read these words of hers from February last year. Whether young or old, you're bound to get something out of it. ***** "I’ll be turning 95 this coming Monday. In my younger years, I was often

Another road trip for Agbyte. Heading across the Nullarbor for a week of new weather station, soil moisture probe & tank level installations around Esperance. Have got a few extra parts on board, if you are in the region & would like a monitoring site, please get in touch.
