The next generation is just as bad. Only wraps the idea in better words. The biggest problem is tax (in) equity. The formal non-agri sector is paying through it's teeth. While the agri pays very small amounts.
If Pakistan is serious about increasing tax revenue, we need to: 1. Drastically expand the tax base. Make it seamless (digitally) to become a filer. And EXTREMELY inconvenient not to be one. Make it painful. 2. Tax the rich hard. Not just income. Tax luxury. Tax lifestyle. 300%

In Pakistan, the last date for filing income tax returns was 31st October. It’s been almost one months and 5 days now (almost 5 weeks)— but let’s be honest: nobody has received an automatic tax refund and obviously nobody will. Because in Pakistan, refunds are NOT automatic.
