But Bekri no longer has Turkish papers, just a Chinese passport, so the immigration office decided to deport her to China. This was done despite contrary guidance - Germany has issued guidance against deporting Uyghurs back to China. Local officials ignored this guidance.

Incredible story: Germany sends Uyghur asylum seeker back to China - but she doesn't get arrested, likely because the Chinese didn't know she was coming. Her daughter then quickly buys her a ticket to Istanbul, and she was able to get out. Detailed SPIEGEL report link below.

Example after example of individuals being intimidated by China. We cannot get an accurate view of how bad the Chinese government is because they are so effective at silencing their critics. Incidentally, Adrian has been threatened for his research as well.
