We remember a time when HIV/AIDS was called “gay-related immune deficiency” aka GRID and “gay cancer”. NEVER AGAIN will we let world leaders transfer blame to communities. Trust science over discrimination always.
I always treated the Chinese Virus very seriously, and have done a very good job from the beginning, including my very early decision to close the “borders” from China - against the wishes of almost all. Many lives were saved. The Fake News new narrative is disgraceful & false!
We can answer that for you: No. Both
@Target
and
@phluidproject
did not get permission to use “SILENCE = DEATH” art. We have been fighting the commodification of AIDS for years and this is the latest edition. If you want to support our work buy from us:
If you get sick with a respiratory virus, stay home and away from others. You can return to normal activities when symptoms have been getting better overall for 24 hours, but take precaution for the next 5 days to curb the spread of illness.
When a community member is attacked with racially and homophobic charged words, it is a hate crime. Not “alleged”. Not “possible”. Not “apparent”. We demand justice for Jussie Smollett.
Let us remind you that Freddie Mercury died of AIDS and that the fight to end it still continues. Rami Malek failed to mention that in his speech.
#Oscars
We spy a “Silence = Death” on Gottmik’s Keith Haring-influenced finale look.
Congrats

BREAKING: ACT UP NY member, Butch Molly, has chained themselves to a bench and announced a hunger strike in support of NYU's divestment campaign to end the genocide in Gaza. Come show your support at NYU Tandon School of Engineering in Brooklyn.
We did a die-in on 23rd representing the at least 17 HIV+ asylum seekers that died in ICE detention and everyone living with HIV that died under the state. We honor them with action.

Hind Rajab was a frightened 6-year-old girl in Gaza who was killed while she hid alone in a car, along with the paramedics who went to rescue her; today, students at Columbia have seized the administration building and renamed it in her honor.
Nancy Reagan did nothing of the sort. This type of revisionist history does a grave disservice to the ACT UP veterans that risked their lives in direct action. There is no "triumph" of waiting until 20,000 AIDS deaths before even muttering the word "AIDS".
Nancy Reagan fought the most conservative elements of the Reagan administration in an attempt to get her husband to pay more attention to the deadly pandemic. It wasn't enough. An excerpt from
@ktumulty
’s “The Triumph of Nancy Reagan,” out tomorrow:
When watching

tonight, please remember to keep AIDS in the conversation, that ACT UP still exists today, and that we’ve still got work to do to end the epidemic and protect our long-term survivors.
FLASHBACK: Almost 31 years ago ACT UP protested Trump for receiving a $6.2 million tax abatement from the city to construct Trump Tower. Funding that could have gone to HIV/AIDS housing. “Donald Trump gets richer while homeless people get sicker.”
If there’s any tweet you RT tonight, let it be this. PrEP is a HIV preventative drug that reduces the risk of HIV transmission by more than 99% and

marks up the price by 250x production costs. Demand they

, know that all the progress surrounding HIV is thanks to the activists that risked their lives fighting government neglect. To this day we still continue to fight for universal treatment and prevention access due to abhorrent pharma greed.
NO PRIDE IN GENOCIDE 🔺 In a historic display of ACT UP NY’s solidarity with Palestine, yesterday over 50 ACT UP members new & old showed up to march in demand of a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and end to the genocide.

Happy 75th Birthday Marsha ‘Pay It No Mind’ Johnson. Co-founder of Gay Liberation Front, Co-founder of S.T.A.R. and ACT UP member. Black Trans HIV+ Sex Worker Lives Matter today and everyday. We honor you.
We’re seeing open calls to enforce social distancing, and we’re here to tell you that policing a pandemic is not the answer. We know via HIV criminalization laws that punishing disease doesn’t only harm communities, it spikes transmissions and prevents people from seeking care.
Hey

March 24, 1987, exactly 31 years ago today we had our first protest on Wall Street. It’s so meaningful to see youth show up and out today demanding action.

A $60 tee with “PrEP” on it.
Sounds familiar to a pharmaceutical company that marks up the price of PrEP to over $2,000/month while it costs $6 to make a month supply. This is not it Frank.
This comes at no surprise. The NY Times was known for their lack of coverage of AIDS organizing. In the spirit of Larry Kramer, here’s a video of ACT UP vets chanting “fuck The NY Times!” just months ago at their photoshoot.
Shoutout to the STIGMA DESTROYERS aka

impassioned segment on Maddow. Over 13 HIV+ immigrants have died under ICE custody due to inaccess to treatment, freezing temperatures, and malnutrition. This is torture. This is murder. This is blatant human rights abuses.
WATCH: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez delivers impassioned response to President Trump’s address: “The president should be really defending why we are funding [ICE] at all … right now, what we are seeing, is death.”

Reminder for those that forgot, the first Pride was a riot against police violence. The very same police violence that disproportionately effects our queer family, specifically our Black and Brown siblings. Remember to hold space and center them this Pride Month.

we remember the dead and fight like hell for the living. Although we have made strides in the fight to end HIV such as Undetectable = Untransmittable and PrEP we’ve still got a hell of a lot of work ahead of us until we end the epidemic once and for all.
A reminder that over 13 HIV+ immigrants seeking asylum were murdered in ICE detention due to malnutrition, freezing temperatures, and being refused treatment. The only “animals” are ICE.
It’s come to our attention that your insurance plan does not cover
#PrEP
. If you can’t protect the sexual health of our community, take that rainbow down.
Ritchie Torres, a sitting member of Congress would rather use his platform to run a targeted smear campaign against a beloved Black trans community leader than face accountability for his role in an ongoing genocide.
No,
#COVID19
isn’t AIDS but the parallels are clear as day. Vulnerable communities are taking the brunt of this pandemic due to overwhelming neglect. All the barriers in place (healthcare, pharma greed, housing, stigma, etc.) that have kept HIV alive will keep this virus alive.
Hi
@NYGovCuomo
, if you want to honor Larry Kramer’s legacy, stop cutting critical medicaid funding. Your state budget is a atrocious and will have gruesome effects for people living HIV that rely on it.
#NoMedicaidCuts
Deeply saddened by the death of Larry Kramer, a great NYer who helped galvanize the nation’s response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. As the federal gov't sat paralyzed, Larry Kramer was fearless & relentless — he demanded & inspired action. We will miss him.
Let’s never forget that George H.W. Bush perpetuated HIV discrimination via federal legislation and watched as over 100,000 Americans died of AIDS-related deaths.
#WorldAIDSDay
Hi
@hbomax
. We were busy with an anti-Cuomo protest yesterday but this came to our attention today. We did not grant permission for you to use our button for some nostalgia tv show promo accessory. We’ll be in touch soon.
we love you frank, but 80’s nightlife was revolutionary because of people living with HIV and their caretakers. let’s uplift our elders and honor their legacy.
That said, not having reached out to ACT UP NY—while many others have, and selling this product purely for commercial profit, means it was not done in good faith. We vehemently believe that the corporatization of Pride, and in this case, of historic AIDS imagery has gone too far.
Our deepest congratulations Angie, but we’ve been an org. fighting to end the AIDS crisis with direct action for over 32 years now, and we’re not letting up anytime soon.
Please rethink the name, and honor the legacy of folks who put their bodies on the line for HIV justice.
These photos were taken by Ellen Neipris, ACT UP member since the 80’s. Whether yesterday was your 1st ACT UP action or 100th, we need you! Join us every Monday night 7-9PM & join one of our working groups on: condoms, safety, Pride, Palestine & more. Zoom link below 👇
Miss Major has been a pivotal force in HIV justice work and for the trans and gender nonconforming community across the world. Let’s lift a living Stonewall vet with spirit and with $.
Today is the anniversary of our first-ever action on Wall Street in March 24, 1987. 32 years later, we are STILL fighting for access to costly HIV treatment and prevention drugs.
When we say
#DefundthePolice
, we also mean end the policing and criminalizing of people living with HIV, sex workers, and people who use drugs. If we aren’t protecting us all, then we fail.
Guess what? ACT UP turns 33 today. It was March 24, 1987 where we flooded Wall Street to demand immediate action on the inaccessibility to AIDS drugs. We continue the fight to this day. Celebrate in solidarity by using

at this moment, you are holding a 2020 campaign fundraiser at a Pfizer executive’s home. You can’t say you’re “Medicare for All” and take pharma money in the same sentence.
#PharmaOut
I’ve fought for Medicare for All since my first House race in 2006. It's not an abstract goal—I helped write the plan to get there from our current system. We will create competition, get costs down, and finally make health care a right for all. It's about time.
Definition: “TERF” — trans-exclusionary radical feminist. JK Rowling, you are a TERF. Your violent denial of trans and non-binary existence is gravely disappointing yet unsurprising to our siblings who saw this coming.

Just in case you forgot, we’re not new to protesting Trump. He’s been a long time villain to people living with HIV. Here’s a throwback to our ‘89 action where we protested housing greed.
By cutting HIV funding? By letting HIV+ migrants die in detention centers? By putting sex workers at-risk with SESTA/FOSTA? By proposing religious freedom bills that put HIV organizations at-risk? By partnering with pharmaceutical companies?
#WorldAIDSDay
On World AIDS Day, The First Lady and I express our support for those living with HIV/AIDS and mourn the lives lost. We reaffirm our commitment to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic....
No Trump. As always you are WRONG.
There is no vaccine for AIDS though we have advancements in treatment where PLHIV can have achieve an undetectable viral load and not transmit (“U=U”). Our battle continues with pharma holding monopolies on these lifesaving drugs.
Today we celebrate 34 years of acting up, fighting back, and working to end AIDS! Let’s roll up our sleeves, we’ve still got work to do.

Thank you for helping us keep HIV in the conversation tonight during the airing of

. AIDS isn’t history and we’ve still got work to do. Join us in the fight to end the damn thing.
We are! We just tweeted about it 😃 and hosted a long COVID q&a this week, require masks at everything we do, get vaccination vans at pride, etc… etc…
Why the fuck do you have a problem with a historically anti-war organization standing up against a genocide?
Bye ✌️
Trump paid $750 in taxes in 2016 and 2017 yet HIV drugs Truvada and Biktarvy cost $2,100/month and $3,390/month while both were created thanks to taxpayer funding. This country continues to protect the rich and let pharmaceuticals hold monopolies on lifesaving drugs.
With the Trump admin. cutting funds to HIV programs like the Ryan White Program, PEPFAR, and Global Fund, his firing of HIV+ soldiers, and fueling of pharma greed that inhibits universal PrEP access, we don’t trust this one bit.

TONIGHT. We need a plan to protect our siblings living with HIV during COVID-19 and how to fight Gilead Sciences — a pharmaceutical company that is in phase 3 of clinical trials for a coronavirus drug yet has a history of exploiting lifesaving HIV meds for profit.

When the homophobic and xenophobic Trump admin expresses a sudden interest in "people with HIV/AIDS", it is very likely because they plan to target the people and not the disease
Are you protesting in nyc today? If you need it we have Protective Protest Kits. We’ll be giving them out everyday until they run out/ we don’t have to. We’re located in Greenwich Village. Please DM
