Outflow boundaries can do really weird things. Like this tornado yesterday. Or the one here in Upson County back in June, which formed at night with no wind shear whatsoever.

There are many more ways to get a tornado than just having strong wind shear. In 7/27's case (Watertown SD), the tornadic supercell latched onto a boundary, which provided temperature-induced (an OFB usually separates warm air from cold air, and air always flows from cold to

Furthermore, you remove stages and stage points from the equation because they allow for people who don't win to have MORE points than the winner gets currently. It does happen. It also reduces outside sources from interfering in the races and the points championship run.

Michael has one point that I do agree with however. Points reracks don't work. I agree. But I also don't think the proper system is one that allows for it in the first place. If you want more emphasis on winning, you give extra points to the winner of each race.

However, he didn't even get the chance to win the championship in the final race. Instead, ironically, the guy who's car I'm standing in front of in my profile photo, Chase Elliott came out on top. And to me, that's bo different than Logano I mentioned in the column.

Moreover, if Michael's point is that winning should trump all, then the current points system doesn't even reward that. Kevin Harvick was far and away the best driver in 2020. Had the most points, the best average finish, and most crucially to Michael's point, the most wins.

Kenseth on the other hand had just 2 dnfs, ran 97% of the laps and averaged a finish of 10.25 to Newman's 13.92. Outside of the single Statline, Kenseth was just better that season. Which I think is how points should be.

Where you finish on the weeks you don't win SHOULD matter, in my opinion. Michael brings up Ryan Newman in 2003, and points out he won 8 times that season. Impressive yes, but what he failed to mention is Newman also DNFed 7 times and only ran 90% of the laps that season.

I don't believe that close racing = good racing. Pure and simple. Michael's points 2 and 3 are pretty much the same. Winning trumps everything. I respectfully disagree. There's 40 people out there every week, all of them want to win. But there are 39 positions other than first.

They simply don't race well anywhere else. Even the current plate package outside of Atlanta (of all places) leaves a lot to be desired. This idea that the racing is better is debatable. They're closer together, sure. But it's just eyecandy.

Michael's first point. 1. The Cars are better now than ever. I disagree. They're cheap, carbon copies of each other. They're designed to be good at mile and a halfs and nowhere else. One only need look at Jeff Glucks race polls for short tracks and road courses to see that.
