So a guess on team’s future ranking can’t be bases on said team having had 2 first round playoff byes in a row and also not needing a ton of guys from the portal. Sounds totally logical.
Only Georgia could fail to win a single playoff game over the past three seasons, do next to nothing in the transfer portal, and still somehow get ranked in the top three in a preseason poll. Make it make sense.

Stop playoff expansion! Fix the portal, NIL, and cap what universities can pay these kids. This format is unsustainable. College football is dying right in front of us and all anybody in charge cares about is more awful playoff games for the TV contract.

On a side note, this playoff format needs to be fixed. Huge issues need to be addressed: choice of teams, seeding, bye weeks, etc… In general, everything about college football is a complete mess right now.
