Great collaboration! My part in this work was to show the non-magnetic nature of the molecular states by probing the solitons with the nickelocene STM tip, in this case, the absence of splitting gave us the hint! @nanosurflab @davidecijalab Check it:

NiCl2 is a soft magnetic 2D material. Its magnetic anisotropy flips from in plane to out of plane at 0.6 T (XMCD). The nickelocene IETS splits when the NiCl2 is OOP, allowing map the splitting at 0.6 T as we ramp B, like in XMCD. Check it!
