Lets move away from #fixingtheparents - the "at-risk" and "targeted" interventions are inequitably focus on families in poverty and Black and Latinx parents. Instead lets ask parents, "what do you need?" (Deb Daro) #NextStepChildPol 1/n

I’m heartbroken. Monique’s mentorship and friendship was foundational in my career - one that has become a major part of my identity. I will carry out her legacy through my own mentorship. In Memoriam: Dr. Monique LeBourgeois

To build a robust child care system that can support our growing workforce - especially BIPOC and female employees - is going to take a lot of social and financial investment. Thank you @POTUS @VP @WhiteHouse for continuing the equitable child care work! https://t.co/CLJ0ESZa3x

"Immigrant families may fear enrolling their children in safety net programs, even when children may be eligible, because of immigration-related concerns." Education and support from trusted sources can help families gain access to programs their children need.
Report: Adults in mixed-status families were more likely than adults in families with other immigration statuses & adults in all-US-born families to report material hardships. Learn more:

This on top of the finding that, generally, parents who work non-standard schedules make less $$ than parents who work standard schedules. https://t.co/MSREP89ZPK
Using #GSSdata, NORC researchers in the #NORCSparkathon analyzed income differences between parents working nonstandard hours (nights, weekends, irregular hours) and parents working standard hours. @_rhberger

This secondary data analysis I conducted with #GSSdata surfaced striking income disparities between White and Hispanic/Black parents. White parents working non-standard schedules make more $$ than Hispanic/Black parents irrespective of work schedule. #NORCSparkathon @NORCNews
In the #NORCSparkathon, NORC researchers looked at racial and ethnic differences in family income for parents working nonstandard and standard schedules. #GSSdata was used to control for education and compare to the cost of raising children in 2022. @_rhberger

TL;DR socialized practices MATTER. Always critically examine and conceptualize measures for use in the target population. The authors’ answer to international cross-cultural SEL questions signal the importance of this methodological practice in our wonderfully multicultural US.
1/ Working on this project shifted how I think about self control, individual differences, development, equity in our science, and my heritage. I'm grateful to have been a part of it and would love to hear your thoughts.
