EXACTLY! Many of those people lack media literacy and dont dig deeper into the implicit messages of the show. It was pretty obvious they were doomed for the start. Episode 2: "so our entire existence here... is just larping?" -> great foreshadowing of this.
I feel that this is very clearly intentional In fact, the fandom disliking that they were lied to with fake lore, especially when they have been there for a long time, is exactly what the characters are feeling, so people are feeling what the characters are feeling
