You still need deterministic systems to keep probabilistic systems in check. To answer my own point - the application layer does not go away.

Arvind Narayanan @random_walker the insurance industry has a large part to play in the safety and governed means to the adoption of many innovations historically. Case in point, UL's origins trace back to 1894, when William Henry Merrill Jr. established the Underwriters.
This is an interesting development. If AI is normal technology, the speed of AI adoption will depend on innovation in business models, risk management, and governance much more than on the speed of improvement in AI capabilities.
