One of my first stories for @projo — the curious case of the resignation of a city councilwoman. It has everything: allegations of blackmail, accusations of lying and a potential police investigation. Thanks for reading!.

The spontaneous nature of the revival—typical of revival movements—also highlights Gen Z’s dissatisfaction with institutions, whether religious or secular. In some ways it attests to their desire for genuine experiences but it also may augur social disengagement.

Gen Z seems tired of the culture wars. Kevin Brown, Asbury’s president, told me students are not asking “What do you believe?” but “Does this work?” Students also emphasised the revival had nothing to do with politics (unlike some so-called revival tours led by Trump followers).

Gen Z is not known for its piety. A full third are non-religious and nearly one in five are agnostic or atheist. But it would be premature they are giving up on faith. Surveys indicate many are still interested in learning more about Jesus and the Bible.
