So UBC has a new HR/payroll system. Workday. The transition took years, and a lot of money, and a lot of headaches. But we've been using it for a little while now. It is bad. It has serious problems that are also labour issues.

@jmaxholmes Unfortunate given we have exams 7 days a week now. Having exams on Satrudays and Sundays comes with a need to support the faculty giving these exams and the students taking them. This term, rapid testing is a critical part of that support.

Letter from the Alma Mater Society to the academic leadership of @UBC. Students need clarity, students need leadership, and students need to be SAFE. We ask that all in-person examinations be cancelled starting Dec 18th, 2021.

If it is true that UBC is in a much better position than other universities who’ve pivoted (and I hope we are!), then we need to share the numbers and risk analysis that demonstrates this. “Just trust us” isn’t an effective confidence-building strategy.
U of T is moving all exams online starting tomorrow. Hard to compare UBC's strategy to U of T's. One is evidence based good public health. The other is "cross my fingers and hope".

This fall, I was given two different books on university governance as a UBC Governor that I would describe as against elected Governors and anti-faculty more generally. Great efforts are made to try to isolate elected Governors by denying their electorates have any role.
@jmaxholmes @UBC @AGBInsights always loved getting pro-d materials telling me i shouldn't be on the board. like, what am i supposed to do with that? and more importantly - what are you telling other governors to do with me?
