Startups let you carve your own path. “At startups, if you show initiative and interest, it's easier to move into something that fits your natural abilities, and grow once you’re there. There’s always something new in need of innovation.” 🧵5/6.

There's something about tech. "The reason I went into tech is that in a lot of the jobs I had, I somehow ended up on tech-related initiatives that needed to be completed. I enjoyed that and naturally gravitated towards tech.” 🧵3/6.

Looking for the next challenge. “I grew up on a grain farm. After that, I was a cabinet maker. I also worked for a trucking company. Then I worked in stormwater management, which was a super fun job, but after a while, it didn’t provide enough challenge." 🧵2/6.

@Checkfront Startups are a rocket ship: I was late to tech, working at a startup gave me a huge jumpstart in my career. In my first year as a developer at @neofinancial , I was able to work on a lot of things that I never would have been allowed to work on at an established company. ” 🧵5/6.

@Checkfront When you know it’s time: “I was working in politics in Toronto. I was good at my job, but I knew that I was getting tired. I started thinking, why not write the things that will one day automate my job? So I started to teach myself how to code.” 🧵 2/6.
