Six months later: there is only *one* two-star review of FROM EDEN TO EGYPT on @goodreads. And . . . it’s from a guy who gave 1 Corinthians—yep, *that* 1 Corinthians—one star. If there’s a second edition, an idea for the cover: “Some readers like it more than the Bible itself.”

In fancy language, it’s a “biblical theology of the temple.” In normal-people language, it tells the story of how sinners can make it home to live in God’s presence again. It tells the story of how what was lost at the Garden of Eden is reclaimed through Christ, . . .

Anyway, biblical theology is amazing. Normal, ordinary, everyday Christians should understand it. They should be able to recognize bad examples of it—and they should rejoice in good examples of it. To that end, I wrote a (very short) book called Nomad.

Consider the prologues of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Man, it’s much easier to put asides like these in a footnote!)

(Thinking about it now, of *course* the Bible would do this! I should have known. Artists and creators do this all the time. They fill their present-day works of art with allusions and connections to what came before. I could pick 10 million examples.

as a single, beautiful, multi-authored story. It teaches us the obvious-yet-for-some-reason-odd observation that the biblical authors read the Bible themselves, and so they intentionally make connections between their books and the books that came before.

But for many of us, this task of biblical theology is too daunting, too abstract, too academic. What a shame. Here’s the thing: biblical theology doesn’t exist to tempt PhD students with goofy dissertation ideas. It exists to train God’s people to read God’s Word . . .

I didn’t know that you could trace biblical themes—atonement, Passover, temple, exile, priesthood, and so on—from Genesis to Revelation. In fact, not only *could* Christians like me do that, we *should*!

I don’t remember when I first heard about “biblical theology.” It was probably in seminary. Until then, I don’t think I knew that the Passover and the Lord’s Supper were connected. I had no idea what the Old Testament temple had to do with my local church.

Here's a clip from one of the church services — Prestonwood Baptist in TX. As the pastor, Jack Graham, makes clear, this is not an actual clip of Charlie Kirk. He never said these words. This is an entirely AI-generated fabrication that, nonetheless, garners a standing ovation.

i wrote this (short) book so that everyday christians could see how the whole bible tells a story of how God’s people can enjoy God’s presence in peace. nomad: a short story of our long journey home https://t.co/MEXmUyA2h8
