For the record I understand why Pokémon is releasing the different languages as their own applications design wise, but I don’t get why they can’t sell them as a bundle and let you freely download any language version after paying.

Posting this right after people criticize Pokémon for making people pay separately for the same game in different languages is hilarious. Sonic is actually part of why i’ve started learning Japanese, so thank you Sonic Team 🫡

And it’s not necessarily just a matter of it functioning at all but rather getting it to a point where it’s reliable and enjoyable for the average player. People *have* emulated the two screens for (3)DS Pokémon games on Switch, but they aren’t exactly optimal ways to play them.

Potentially $30 for a DS game sounds insane, and in any other context it would be, but shit like the dual screens, multiple communications methods for different features, online elements, and other system specific content sounds like a nightmare to make work on the Switch.

I don’t think people really think about how the Pokémon games have a *lot* of social & extremely system specific features that make them tricky to move to other platforms. If these releases are proper high quality preservations of the games then i’ll give them slack on the price.

Okay so double checked and the GB games on 3DS were $10. If they stick to $10 increments for each system then it’ll actually be fairly consistent GB- $10 GBA- $20 DS- $30 3DS- $40 As long as the quality is on point and they’re proper ports/emulation, then I’d be fine with this.

I understand the DS and 3DS entries are a bit more complex to bring to Switch, but there’s no reason the GB and GBA games can’t all be on Switch.

I am happy though that it’s a direct rerelease of the original game, no weird pseudo-remake or whatever. I just hope they don’t stop at just FRLG and actually rerelease the other mainline RPGs.

$20 for FRLG feels a little steep, but it also could have been way worse. It really does feel like the absolute maximum they could charge for this without sounding out of their mind.

I’ve been wondering why Sonic Team haven’t done something like this for at least a year now so i’m excited to see someone with the actual game dev skills necessary make it into a reality. This looks fantastic, I hope ST does this as well in the next mainline title.
