Tim worked tirelessly for the NMATA and served on the Board of Directors for all but two years of the organization's existence. Tim has served on the convention committee, three terms as the Southern Representative, one term as the Secretary/Treasurer,.

Tim was also an instrumental member of the New Mexico State University Athletic Training Education Program and served as one of the first clinical instructors of the program.

Tim joined Mayfield High School in the fall of 1985 as the Head Athletic Trainer and a science instructor. Tim continued to serve as the Head Athletic Trainer at Mayfield High School through the 2011-2012 school year.

He then moved into the UNM Athletic Training Program and worked under NATA Hall of Fame member and NMATA Hall of Fame member L.F. "Tow" Diehm until he graduated in 1982.

Tim was inducted on May 31st, 2013, as the seventh member of the NMATA, Inc. Hall of Fame. Tim was also inducted into the RMATA Hall of Fame in 2013. Tim graduated from Poplar Bluff High School and then worked under NATA Hall of Fame member Ron Carroll for one year.

He was known as “Doc” by his students, colleagues, coaches and administrators. He was a compassionate healer, caring for those during some of their most vulnerable & formative moments. Many considered him a second or surrogate Dad & Father figure.

With Heavy hearts we grieve the loss of Timothy “Doc” Acklin. He succumbed to his fight with Cancer on the morning of May 23rd. Tim was a pillar of the Athletic Training community in New Mexico for nearly 5 decades.
