Today we had our first virtual career fair guest. My friend Rosa who works as an engineer for PG&E stopped by to tell us about her job. The kids had awesome questions and were very engaged! 😍

3/3 The friend and teacher in me is so proud. Besides feeling happy they are doing this I’m so proud of all the “at risk” kids I grew up with that now have all these amazing jobs and proved the stats wrong. That’s the power of teachers!

2/3 I now have zooms scheduled with a Harvard Microbiologist, an RN military officer, a Senate Chief of Staff, a Family Therapist and two Engineers. I’m sitting here crying and seeing more opt ins pour in.

1/3 I wanted to make my zoom meetings something meaningful my kids look forward to attending. I decided to ask my friends, most people I grew up with and first gen. Students of color to join us for meets and greets. Within minutes they delivered.

I finally feel like things are shifting into place. I revamped my weekly schedule based on student feedback and things feel better. I keep telling myself to go slow to go fast. Anyone else starting to feel a rhythm going?

Every day during our zoom meetings we do highs and lows. Then, we play games. THAT IS IT. Class Meeting times are to connect and socialize. Sts have already journaled what an impact this is making on their mental health and well being. Huge win!

I have been trying to connect with all my kids for weeks now. There are few I haven’t been able to reach at all. Today one of them found my dog’s/my page on tik tok (don’t judge me) and it made me scream and jump for joy.
