It doesn’t get more Christmassy than this for our youngest Ludgrovian. As one of Mrs Barber’s festive traditions, she entrusted Freddie (the youngest boy in School) with placing baby Jesus in the manger in the Chapel‘s gorgeous Nativity scene. A core memory he’ll never forget 🥰

Jack Frost was nipping at the boys’ toes when they set off on Ludgrove’s traditional First Frost barefoot run around Chapel ground! Glorious to see prep school idiosyncrasy at its finest. (Don’t worry, boys did this voluntarily and quickly warmed up afterwards 😂) #firstfrost

On Governors Day, Ludgrove was joined by a special group of people from the business world, senior schools and the parent body, who help keep our School on course. Thank you to our dedicated volunteers who visited to talk to the boys and staff and experience a Ludgrove day.

When you’ve never experienced snow in this country before, what’s the first thing you do? Knee slide of course! Our Australian Gappers maybe be young men but it’s good to know that they are still boys at heart!❄️#letitsnow #firstsnow #firsttimeforeverything #gappers #prepschool

No encouragement needed for everyone to pick up something and read today… Ludgrove’s annual magazine is hot off the shelves and the boys (and staff!) are eager beavers to see if they are in it!#inthenews #prepschool

“They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. We will remember them.” Mr Barber led Ludgrove in the Act of Remembrance as he read aloud the names of the 113 Old Ludgrovians who lost their lives in the two World Wars.

Congratulations to Charlie who has received a Sports Award from Marlborough College. A talented cricketer and rugby player, you can see from his humble reaction to the School’s congratulations that he is a sportsman who takes everything in his stride, on and off the pitch.

We love Sets’ Football but what we love more is seeing how Ludgrove’s unique, game* brings OLs together! Thirty eight players attended the annual event at Burton Court, London, cheered on by families and two special guests… Mr and Mrs Barber senior! (*2 teams, 3 balls, 3 refs)

The boys spent a special morning with their VIP guests introducing them to life at Ludgrove. Time flew by too quickly, so to sweeten the farewells our guests took with them a little taste of Ludgrove in a pot of honey from Mrs Barber’s bees! 🐝

A Head that goes above and beyond for their prep school… remind you of anyone?! Well it is just one of the reasons Mr Barber has been recognised as the Best Head of a Prep School in the prestigious Tatler Schools Awards. Well done Sir, we are all incredibly proud of you!

It’s a special moment for a Ludgrove boy to say ‘Grace’ for lunch. However for four boys on European Day of Languages it was an extra special opportunity to say it in a language they speak at home. We’re very proud of Louis, Timur, Tirso and Manuel. #europeandayoflanguages

A huge well done to Mr Parker and his Green Team for leading Ludgrove’s efforts to be more environmentally friendly and, in doing so, being awarded the Eco Schools Green Flag accreditation with Distinction. A real team effort that had everyone in the School working together!

It’s the day when the new boys truly feel like they have become a Ludgrovian! The boards that proudly herald the September 2025 starters have been put in position in the Dining Hall alongside all those Ludgrovians that have come before them since 1892. #nextgeneration

“There’s no rush to ‘grow up’ at Ludgrove - which is what draws so many parents to this ‘wholesome’ and ‘traditional’ school.” Thank you Tatler Schools Guide for such a spot on review of Ludgrove. In their words, “heaven for boys”.#prepschool

When your team mates decide they want you to win (but don’t tell you!) Before this year’s Cricketers’ Race the competitors decided they wanted team favourite, Toby, to have his moment in the spotlight. So… one by one the runners ‘fell’ away leaving him to cross the line first.

As our Leavers start senior school, remember what Alan Barber, the Headmaster’s grandfather, wrote: “Always speak the truth; stick up for yourself; never do anything that you would be ashamed to tell M [mum] and myself; be brave; always be cheerful and never lose your temper.”

With just a week until senior schools start the Michaelmas term, it is a good time to revisit Mr Barber’s words of wisdom to our Top Year boys and their parents at Leavers’ Day last term. Wise words for families everywhere… #wisewords
