I'll be hosting a few panels at @AmiKonDublin this year. On Saturday it's "So you want to be a Translator?" Panel from 1:30 and the "Japanese 101" panel from 3:30. And on Sunday at 2pm I'm helping with the Monster Romance panel. Hope to see you all there!

A fun thing in Japan is the桜前線 (さからぜんぜん Sakura Zensen) lit. "Cherry Line/Front". A months-long prediction as to the cherry blossoms bloom across Japan. The earliest bloom (March) is in Okinawa, and the latest (May) is in Hokkaido🌸 They even put the forecast on TV.

Some like to go flower viewing at night called 夜桜 (よざくら Yozakura) lit. night cherry 🌸 . There are two phrases which are 花霞 (はながすみ Hanagasumi) lit. "Flower Mist/Haze" and 花の雨 (はなのあめ Hana no ame) lit. "Flower Rain". Referring to the pink cascade of flowers 🩷

I thought it might be fun to go over some Hanami Vocab 🌸 .桜 (さくら Sakura) are cherry blossoms, and 梅 (うめ Ume) plum. Both are in full bloom around April in Japan. Before cherry were popular 花見 (はなみ Hanami flower viewing) parties had picnics while watching Ume blossoms.
