This is by far the most personal thing I've ever written, but it's also the piece of work I'm most proud of. I wrote about a motor disorder that I was diagnosed with when I was nine, and why most people in America don't know about it.
I’m on a transatlantic cruise from New York to England (long story) and my favorite part is that they have a TV channel that shows you where you are in relation to where the Titanic sank

My puppy got bit by another dog and had to get stitches this week, which is how I discovered that pet ERs are *much* more well-run than human ERs, and also how I found myself hysterical in Jackson Heights on a Wednesday morning, anyway here's a photo of him in his Recovery Cone™

I have seen Grace's death be attributed to: the fact she was backpacking, the fact she was drinking, the fact she was on Tinder, what she liked to do during sex, her being "naïve" (she was 21!), and more. As though her own murder is, somehow, her fault.

I’m here to interrupt your Monday news panic with these before & after shots of my foster puppy, who was all dirty and sad and abandoned when we picked him up in June and is now happy, healthy, and so loving I’m covered in dog hair every single day. (And yeah, we’re keeping him.)

Respectfully: No. Women's media is stuffed with the hardest-working journalists I've ever met, fighting like hell every day to produce work that is sharp, sincere, empowering. There is no "scam."
My favorite breed of New Yorker is the New Yorker who nonchalantly brings eight-foot furniture on the subway because they’ll be damned if they’re paying a delivery fee when they live six miles away, goddamnit.
Our most treasured family tradition on Christmas is reminiscing about the man I dated who helped us decorate the tree and then, out of nowhere, began eating the cookie dinosaur ornament I’d made in 1994

After my rescue dog passed away, we looked and looked for another dog to adopt. Everyone said I was passing on the “good” dogs, that I needed to just pick one. The dogs we met were wonderful, but they weren’t my dog. I knew when I found my dog. You will, too. Here’s mine ❤️
What’s the moment you realized you were a grown-up? Mine was just now when I realized they’d describe me as an “older woman” if I went on The Bachelor!

This is my boy Skipper. Skipper died suddenly aged one in the spring. He’s a ball of energy, a huge extrovert. He likes to protect new dogs in the dog park, so he’ll be looking forward to protecting his new bud.
A real thing that just happened: my dog growled at a somber-looking guy walking down the street, I said, “I’m sorry, he’s not always friendly” and the guy replied, “No, it’s nice to finally be acknowledged”
Sappy dog post ahead: It’s been three months since we adopted Captain (left, the day we fell in love with him; right, this week). He’s like a different dog. It’s mind-boggling what a little love can do.
Today I analyzed "Bigfoot Erotica" against "Bigfoot Porn" in Google Trends. At work. With my other hand deep in a bag of Goldfish crackers. Life is good. AMA.
my career goals, you ask? to make every meeting a tea party. I have brought my teapot to ~250 meetings and convinced somebody (anybody) to join me ~2 times. perhaps this one won't go on LinkedIn.
Look, everything sucks, but adopting a dog has been one of the greatest sources of joy in my life (I know, I know, you've heard me say it a million times now). So here's an idea. By

Here’s something wholesome for your Friday: We adopted this little guy a month ago, after the sudden death of our last dog. He was skinny and afraid, and we weren’t doing great. Now he’s eight pounds heavier, brash and cuddly, and this dumbass just makes us laugh all the time.
Signed some life insurance documents today. Texted my parents to joke about how much they’d get. Dad texts back immediately: “Is that for each of us? Or would we have to split it?”
I’m terrified of flying. But I live far from my family, so I do it a lot. When the plane starts shaking, I almost always panic-ask the person next to me if I can please hold their hand. I don’t know why, maybe the human connection? Nobody has ever said no. They just take my hand.
Please share your stories of the time strangers were good to you. Mine was the cab driver who just calmly handed me an entire box of Kleenex as I wept in the back of a late night cab after saying goodbye to a friend.
I just walked past a familiar-looking woman I could not place and just stared at her until she called out, “Bustle, internship, many years ago” and I truly appreciate the hours of pondering she has saved me
