Three months ago, I asked two outstanding

Had an excellent conversation with Chief

I’m so proud of their courage in stepping up to handle a tough post, and how they’ve gradually reconnected with residents who have been through so much over the last three years, but have not given up on our city. These cops are making a difference every day!

Congratulations to Cmdr. Yolanda Wilks for completing The DC Police Leadership Academy! The most valuable assets in this department are our people, I have high expectations for our officers, and even higher expectations for those who lead them... /1

Cmdr Abdirahman Ali, and to all recent promotees! With 18 new command staff, and 90 subsequent transfers, this is the biggest shakeup in MPD history. It is significant for the MPD and for all who were promoted. We are decisively moving forward together!
Promotions included the first Somali-American to earn the rank of Commander, likely making him the highest ranking Somali in policing in the US. Also, the first African-American woman to earn the rank of Commander, and the first Asian-American woman to serve as an Inspector.
