@_Agnijwala_ Eating beef is nothing new for Bengalis. Even during the 1830s, alot of Hindus at English-language colleges in Bengal consumed beef to reject traditional Hindu customs and align with British culture. That was 200 years ago! Living in a heavily Muslim populated society, beef was.

Beef is not common among Bengalis (Hindus) & those who eat are cryptos. Forget beef, chicken was forbidden in Bengal till 19th century as it was popularised by ms. Today also many Bengali villagers consider chicken taboo & those who don't comply with their rules, are ostracized.
@viprabuddhi It's true tho, knew a Bengali brahmin. He ate beef(even tried dog meat). He said, it was common in rural areas and even in urban settings behind close settings.

Not just animals, birds are sacrificed too to different deities, mainly folk. The sacrificed male goat is distributed among the poor. These days even santhals don't accept so Mahish is now buried after sacrifice. The animals that aren't consumed, are buried. It's this simple. 2/2.

The widespread ignorance about Pashubali is really concerning. In Assam & Bengal there's buffalo sacrifice too but people need to understand that every sacrificed animal or even bird, isn't to be consumed by all. Brahmins DON'T consume those. It's consumed by the tribals. 1/2.
