After our disrupters have solved the box we meet Andi, who solves it by taking a hammer to it. If I’d had a hammer that summer I would’ve taken it to my goddamned weedwhacker, but I didn’t have a hammer because hammers were for skilled workers, I just had a goddamned weedwhacker.

While they’re solving the mystery box, Yo Yo Ma shows up, eating pizza and explaining a fugue. A fugue is sort of like when you’ve finally weedwhacked all of the weeds on the entire job site, and then you have to start all over again because they’ve all grown back. Jesus Christ.

Rian plans out his shots with such a specific vision, and it was a joy just getting to learn from him and interpret his great scratch drawings. Later that summer, one of the construction guys told me they could have just sprayed the weeds once and they would have died for good.

Here are a few pages from the opening, where we meet our colorful cast of shitheads, who’ve all received a mystery box from Miles. That summer, my granddad thought I should use a scythe and the foreman had to convince him they should get me an actual weedwhacker from Home Depot.

Probably the most fun job I’ve ever had was doing the storyboards for @rianjohnson’s Glass Onion. I’m trying to think if any other job has even come close. Certainly not being a host at Spice Market, or the summer I spent whacking weeds on a construction site to build character.
