"I really believe anyone can code and no one should ever quit". 3 years ago a moderator on Reddit's r/learnprogramming subreddit smacked me down HARD (see screenshot) for this. Note that I was already a lawyer with 14 years behind me. What's the background?🧵👇

How many of you remember the era when "there should be an app for this" was on everyone's lips? . Long ago. But not so long ago. The world has changed. So why do so many people think that what worked for career change to code in 2013 should still work now?.

I am always super grateful that I changed career from law to code at the ripe old age of 37. But I'm not gonna lie. I kinda wish the tech we have today was available back then. I would have saved 4 to 5 years of struggle. It's a fantastic reset opportunity for careers.

I am genuinely surprised that with AI people still pay for really expensive data structures & algo courses !! They're not the easiest topics at first but AI can break it down, reach you, review your code and test your code endlessly . For free. The hardest things about DSA.

Which would you prefer for your personal growth strategy? .1. Need to be "Right" but doesn't help you make progress .2. Ok being "Wrong" if helps you make progress. It's a much more serious question than people realize. It is this subconscious value-system that drives.

I wont stop shouting this from the rooftops. AI is not just changing software development. It's changing ALL knowledge work. And just no one ever thinks making slide decks is the height of professional capability, I'd like to point out that writing code is not the height of

I grew up Catholic. Am not religious anymore. And it's taken me until my 40s to realize that the 10 commandments were a listicle. 😂.

All coders get tough feedback at some point. It's easier to stop and blame. To close off and retreat. But there is nothing to be gained from that. Roses come with thorns. Both the reviewer and I ended up forging a great relationship because I "picked up the phone". And

Blaming others for things is self serving. It makes us feel better. Taking responsibility for things that are important for us is self help. It makes us better.

Tomorrow is not what it used to be. Yesterday's plans may rest on expired assumptions. This is almost certainly true for conventional education.

AI will replace jobs. Not disciplines. That's an important distinction because the debate is not about absolute replacement but about degrees of displacement. When viewed that way there may not be much to debate.

Want free coding mentorship? . Open a PR and get an experienced dev to review it. Read stack overflow questions and improve answers. Open your own questions. Do. Then ask. Not the other way around. And you'll learn a lot more.

At the start of any hype cycle recruiters look for just sheer core technical skills. But over the long term especially during the maturity and consolidation phases of an industry it's always core *and* soft skills . The same thing for individual careers. At the start it's.

Sr devs : code reviews are a way for you to mentor others and have huge impact. It's about the code but its for the coder. Jr devs : code reviews are mentoring sessions. Don't shoot the messenger. Focus on the message.
