👇 This is just out in Genes Dev (DOI: 10.1101/gad.351667.124). Worthwhile to note that the human telomere SUMO-Repair team resembles those in yeasts; checkout a recent review by Gasser and Stutz discussing SUMO-Repair and their roles in telomeres (DOI: 10.1002/1873-3468.14751).

The data also reveal Smc5/6 features distinct from cohesin and condensin SMCs. These include Nse2-wedge, Nse6-hook, a pseudo-elbow, and an open-head conformation. More about the features and their contributions to Smc5/6 functions are detailed in the paper. Happy Reading 😃.

This work provides insights into the assembly principles of Smc5/6. It also shed lights on the structural basis for the Nse5–6 and Nse1–3–4 antagonism in regulating the ATPase activity of the complex, which could afford a regulatory means for it to perform different functions.

👇 Our new work on how cells regulate checkpoint recovery. Many studies have shown how cells turn on the DNA damage checkpoint, but less is known about how cells turn off it to reverse the stress response. Check out the preprint for new insights. 1/
