Think you’re wrong. Had 8 buddies in town for the Michigan game. All fans of different teams. All the TVs were on NE volleyball and not college football. Every person said this was an embarrassment. I agree.

Further the OP isn’t telling you is 1.) you actually have to pay the full amount out. So instead of a 5k tax bill you spent 15k (assuming 33% rate). Also you may lose dependent credits due to support test. Entirely laughable.

I lived in Denver for 10 years. My best buddy is a Michigan fan. We never once saw a single buffs shirt between 2011 and 2019 unless you went to the university. 🤡.
