Basketball has always been my escape. This year it became God’s way of healing me. My team became my anchor. They didn’t need me, I needed them. It’s so much more than a game.

Coaching is HARD. Teaching is HARD. X’s and O’s are HARD. When you win, you’re a GENIUS. When you lose, you’re an IDIOT. You’re going to put in far more TIME and EFFORT than your kids. However, if you can hammer home the LIFE LESSONS that sports teach, it’s all worth it. #coach.

I’m just a kid from Strathmore who grew up loving college basketball. My trip to the 661 exceeded every expectation little Zack could have ever imagined. I went to work every day loving my job. Even in the difficult times. There is nothing better than that. #gorunners #csub.

I leave with endless memories. Memories of joy, heartbreak, pride, and even sadness. In the end, I wouldn’t do anything differently. I served with loyalty, whether it was to my teammates, the players I coached, the coaches I worked with, or my bosses who took a chance on me.

This is my goodbye. For 20 years I gave everything I had to CSUB. I was able to represent the gold and blue, both on the court, as well as on the sideline. I made many friends, whether we shared the court, shared the sidelines, shared a classroom, or a department.
